  1. 1. What I want is... (Multiple choice, so read all answers)

    • Dan Duquette extended with full autonomy (without interference) to hire his own people and build this franchise as he sees fit.
    • Dan Duquette not brought back.
    • Buck Showalter extended.
    • Buck Showalter not brought back.
    • Brady Anderson retained, yet removed from any position that gives him any real authority over baseball decisions.
    • Brady Anderson fired outright.
    • A brand new 'first time GM' hired, who'll have full autonomy to install their own people and build this franchise as they see fit.
    • A new, yet previously-experienced GM, hired. I don't prefer a rookie to be given full reign over the franchise.

With the Bob Nightengale tweet that Buck will not be brought back while DD will be extended, I wanted to gauge the feelings of our posters. While the Angelos' ownership is a matter of relevant discussion, I'd like to avoid that in the poll.

So, regardless of Nightengale's tweet, and 'on the record', what do you want? Please note that it is multiple choice (you can choose as many as you want)... so read all of the answers before deciding which to vote for.  Also, polling is never exact, so give me a bit of slack, please. LOL :)

I voted for a brand new GM.  But I want Buck and Brady fired.

I want A and believe Dan will refuse to come back without full autonomy. If he's here then I believe he has full control. I would like to see him get that kind of shot. Not like a bunch of other people really want this job.

But you can't have full autonomy in a work environment like the O's.

How can you be autonomous when any number of factors have the ability to go over your head?  If Brady was back channeling Dan before why would anyone expect him to stop?

At the very least Buck and Brady need to go.

This!

I voted for Dan to continue unfettered.  But it won't work if either of these guys are retained too, imo.  But as the OP suggests, the family is still the pink elephant in the room.

I only voted for Buck to be gone — a position I could not have imagined taking at the beginning of 2018.     But it’s clear to me that Buck no longer has the ability to get this team to play it’s best baseball, and there’s no point in paying any manager $3.5 mm right now.     Maybe they can pull an Earl and bring him back in three years.

As to the GM, I didn’t vote because it depends who they can get.    There are probably some former GM’s and also some current assistants who’d be better than Duquette — but would they come here?    And I don’t know enough to comment intelligently on who.

As to Brady, it should be up to the GM whether to keep him and what his role should be.   If he’s retained, he should report to the GM and have no line to upper level management.

I voted for Dan to be extended with full autonomy, Buck gone, and Brady retained with no personnel decision power.

I truly would like for the "new GM" option, Buck gone, and Brady gone.   I'm looking at it as no GM worth his/her salt is going to want to take this job.  I also think that Brady will be around, so we may just as well get used to it.

I would love to see someone groomed in the Rays or Oakland organization that knows how to build a farm system and build a competitive team on a small budget take over as the O's VP of Ops or GM, or whatever we're calling the position.

I could go 50/50 for DD, or a fresh lead.  The #1 consideration for me is that whether it's DD, or a new leader, that they actually be given full autonomy, that no other power factions compete with the GM, and that ownership stays out of the way and lets said GM rebuild this organization without obstruction.

    • I really hope the Ravens win this one. I hate all Washington teams and always root for them to lose but especially if they are playing Baltimore teams
    • I really don’t see the point of trading Mullins, or even Mountcastle for a reliever. We need Mullins definitely, especially with Santander being a FA.  What good is a reliever if you can’t get a lead?  I just don’t like trading everyday players for relievers, especially when we have a good looking pen next year pre deadline, and what reliever would Mounty/Mullins even buy. Would that reliever even be an upgrade over what we already have? At this point, I’m thinking Mounty goes for some sort of RHH COF.
    • We couldn’t have asked for more from the Eflin deal than what we got. 9 starts that kept the rotation afloat to even make the playoffs. Then a “good” playoff start in an elimination game where we had the luxury of going to the pen fast.  It’s always tough giving up prospects, but Eflin did exactly what we needed him to do post deadline.
    • There should be one philosophy, and that's what the O's claimed to have. There's just a lot more work to coaching 13 hitters (plus callups) than one person can do. Going through video, coordinating with the data folks, developing a plan, all that stuff. Only so many hours in the day.
    • I have no idea why any team would want more than 1 philosophy across the board, especially a young team. Possibly a player's demands or contract calls for his own hitting coach.. but I stand by my wish.
    • At cost considerations there is 2 players i'd rather have listed in that article over Crochet, Helsley leading that. Also Mountcastle to the Reds for a SP makes a lot of sense also.
    • Guilty. I'm working to be intentional to enjoy the day to day of a lot of exciting careers beginning, and not miss the moment as during say Peyton Manning's career in a different chapter of life when assured 14-2 or 13-3 seasons were four months of boredom while you waited to see what the playoff stumble would be this time.    SIGBOT's stuff works in the regular season same as Billy Beane's didn't in the playoffs. I don't follow Over/Unders, but would guess the 2025 Orioles are 1st or 2nd in the AL on early action.    My informal AL power rankings end of 2024: 1. A nonexistent Orioles team with a functional Adley Rutschman 2. Yankees with Soto 3. Tie between actual Orioles with broken Adley and end stage Astros that lost several series to hot Central teams 4. Yankees without Soto 5. Central I'm cheating Cleveland there for a joke, and hope they win, which they are plenty capable of doing.    It is an interesting matchup for the stuff the two teams are good at being very different.
