Maybe. But a manager doesn't mean Sisco will have better bat speed and solid defense.

They also got analytics of Sisco last season. If he rates low to them analytically, then he needs a good showing. It is all up to how he performs, whether it is in Baltimore or Norfolk. Same with Wynns, Cervenka (if he is still here), Susac (same) and anyone else they acquire.

Yea, sure.

If he is no longer suffering from the effects of being  knocked out by Pedro's elbow early in the season, his bat speed might improve. But if concussions turn out to be a recurring problem for him, his career is probably toast.

Mullins hit 264/319/432/751 vs righties;  156/296/156/457 vs lefties.  He is a platoon candidate.

If he's the best defender in CF, it's his job until someone better comes along. Long term, he's probably a fourth outfielder.

Exactly. Let's not act like Buck did right by him last year. He didn't. Just like when Mullins came up last year. There wasn't one damn reason Mullins needed to sit so that Rickard or Andreoli could play. That excuse about "evaluating" for next year was BS.

I agree. Why anyone wants Rickard on this team is beyond me.

If they don't sign or trade for someone, Sisco might be one of the catchers. If they get a veteran though, Sisco might have to have a hell of a Spring after last season.

Wilkerson vs. Valera (and anyone else) might end up being a very good battle, especially from a defensive perspective. Should be really fun.

The only issue with Stewart is his arm in right. But a battle of him vs. Hays (and possibly Diaz and, who knows, even Yaz) could be the most entertaining thing we see for 1 spot.

Yes they do need to see what they have.

Quote

The Orioles explored ways at the Winter Meetings to acquire an outfielder and did their homework on a few of the shortstops on the free agent market, including Freddy Galvis and Jose Iglesias. Though likely to pass on both of them, the club could continue to check on veteran options rather than hand the job to Rule 5 infielders Richie Martin or Drew Jackson.

Jonathan Villar could be the shortstop, but the Orioles’ actions suggest that they’d like to keep him at second base, where he made most of his starts after leaving the Brewers. They’d certainly like to have more choices while valuing the type of versatility that Villar and others offer.

I was surprised by the decision to designated infielder Breyvic Valera for assignment and trade him to the Giants for cash considerations.

...

Triple-A options include Engelb Vielma, outrighted in late November, and Sean Miller, the Crofton native signed last month to a minor league deal.

...

Orioles could struggle to land the best available free agents willing to accept one-year deals because they can’t offer the chance at a ring and might not dangle the largest sum of guaranteed money while trying to keep down their payroll. Playing time could be a strong selling point.

Elias has issued the warning that the Orioles will be slower and later entering the free agent market. Players still stuck on it as spring training approaches, and after workouts and games start, tend to be less choosy about where they sign.
