Didn’t know that about Bour. Interviewed him once at GMU. Nice kid. Glad he’s had a decent ml career. Northern Virginia off top of my head has Brandon Snyder who went to Westfield and Brandon Guyer who was a  year ahead of me at Herndon.

I assume there could be some major league players who played HS ball in Maryland, but weren’t born there.   I don’t have a systematic way to find those, so if anyone can think of one, post it here.

Verlander was, and still is, from Richmond - I believe. I confess, I’d not go that far unless it was for a hall of famer.

Richmond Area....he actually played at Goochlad High School. A few years after I coached there.

The CAA in late 90's early 2000's was a power house conference.  VCU, Old Dominion, University of Richmond, East Carolina, JMU, UNC Wilmington, and  George Mason were always solid.   We  consistently had 4-5 teams in top 25.  Lot of talent from the DMV fed that conference.  It's a shame what's become of it.

He and they were our rivals in high school. We had a healthy dose of dislike for him and his program as we were always told he taught his kids to play dirty. He actually used to keep players on his roster who's entire job it was to talk trash to the other team. They would yell "drop it" when a fielder was about to catch a pop up in the infield. We were always taught to respect the game and our opponents and were forbidden to talk with them or the umpires during games.

He and our head coach (Harry Lentz) had a healthy dislike for each other and both were birddog scouts for the Orioles (saying that, few if any of their best players ever were drafted by the Orioles.)

Neagle was the best to come out of either program. I think Chorey Spoone is the guy who made it the farthest up the minor league ladder (AAA) from Northeast.

My best friend played for Bernie at Arundel, so I'll seek further insight and confirmation from him.

I will say that Coach Bernie's reputation precedes him. 

I worked with a coach for a dozen years and he never ever ever had anything nice to say about another coach who wasn't one of his proteges.  Bernie Walters was THE EXCEPTION.  If you knew my coach, you would realize the extent of this praise.

I owe so much to Hammy for introducing me to coaches, helping me with my swing, and convincing me to leave little league and join his club team--a quantum leap in competition.  And no, I was not a very good player in my preteens--he did me a favor.

I know many of the other guys on this list, but Hammy deserves special mention.

I don't want to leave this out.

In fourth grade, all of my classmates and friends were chosen by the father of this kid who didn't like me for an indoor soccer team.  I felt left out.  My father started a team.  We were terrible at the beginning.  We got trounced by my classmates' team.  Mark and another stud agreed to play for us, after which we were untouchable.  The season ended in a TROUNCING of my classmates' team.  I wasn't the confident individual back then that I am now.  I needed that   Hope you enjoyed hearing the story.  If not, sorry lol.
