Here are some choice excerpts from the official Rick Dempsey website, www.rickdempsey24.com:

OMG, he has his own website! And the tag line at the top is "the greatest catcher of his era"! This guy is as bad as Peter Rose with his "Hit King" hat. Someone needs to set up a dummy Gmail account for Chris Davis and contact Dempsey for help.

He did not mention that his restaurant has a four star Michelin rating and considered one of the top 10 restaurants in the world?

No, but there is a video of him holding a Budweiser and talking about Budweiser.

This all assumes that Dempsey wrote this himself and set it up himself.  Burden of proof is on you, hombre.

(Not gonna lie, it's hysterical)

If you want that choice memorabilia, you send an email to - wait for it - a guy with an AOL account.

Shipping NOT included.

Ive seen his name listed among the top 50 catchers ever to play the game.

So he makes money on the side as a motivation speaker, lots of ex-players do this, the ones that didnt make a killing playing the game they loved.

Looks like an outside firm, actually stood up the web site, and is probably managing the booking for him. Good for him.

AOL accounts are making a comeback.  Kinda like hipsters with VHS tapes and cassette tapes.

AOL never left the email scene.

There are millions of free email AOL accounts in existence, no different than gmail, yahoo, or hotmail, etc.

Maybe he'll take him out boozin' and then they can sing some karaoke or something.

I mean, who cares? It's not like Austin Wynns is on some trajectory to be some beast or something.

Austin has the makings of a solid defensive catcher, and if Dempsey can help him in any aspect.

More power to them.

HEY!  Get it together Scorpio.  It's not about Wynns' trajectory.  It's about Dempsey circumventing the coaching staff and angling his way in for a job.

We live in an age of hyperbole. Just look at the politicians and actors who make claims of grandeur. Some retired politicians make over $100,000 for a speech and are really at best average speakers.

Players work out in the off season with other players and sometimes even work out with coaches from other teams they know or live near them. I see no harm and no foul. Now if Dempsey tells him to do something different then what the coaches are telling him then you might have a problem. Maybe Wynns wants to work on some things and since the Orioles are just assembling a major league coaching staff ,he got some help from a 24 year veteran catcher.

It's not up to Dempsey.
