Assuming GrayRod comes back healthy, that gives the O's Eflin and GrayRod at the top of the O's rotation. Pick whichever one you want to be #1. I think we can all agree the Burnes we have seen this year, especially the last month, is not getting $200=250 million from Elias/Rubenstein. I would hope the O's are going to sign a #2/3 type starter. There aren't even many of those available. I think it's almost a given SF resigns Snell at $30 mill/yr. Irvin/Suarez/Kremer/Povich/etc should compete for those 4/5 slots and are as good as any 2nd tier FA the O's would sign at a much cheaper price. Suarez has been at worst the O's 3rd best starter before Eflin got here and I would think he's get's preferential treatment for one of those slots. Not likely to have a chance at a 2nd free agent likely to put up anything close to the 3.5 ERA that Suarez has had this year. -

Or maybe if you have one of these mega contracts say top 50 contracts in baseball, you have to maintain average production at your position. If you are below average production, a 2nd below average consecutive year the team could chose to void your contract. If you are making $30 million/yr, I don't think it's unreasonable to earn your contract by providing average production. Now all a player has to do is stay alive and be able to sit in the dugout. -
