Adley starts at DH today

Sounds like O's management has heard so much about Adley Rutschman's bat that they want to see it for themselves.   I am right there with them.   One game will not tell much but its a start to see where Adley is in his offensive development.     I am looking forward to it.

How about you?

Am I the only one who thinks he should be playing as much as possible and not just a game here or there? I mean he isn't making the opening day roster but the more at bats he gets the better,

You're definitely not the only one. Barely played in 2019, got mono. No season all of last year. Delayed season in 2021. His development is really behind, IMO. Luckily he's supposed to be a natural at everything, but we simply haven't seen him play pro ball for anything but an extremely miniscule amount of time.

He needs to play a ton, and he needs to hit. Kind of tired of reading about his receiving, his maturity, his ability to work with pitchers, etc. Those are great but not why he was a #1 pick. I want to see him hit the cover off of the ball with regularity.

His development mostly happened at Oregon State.

I think calling him (or most athletes) naturals do them a disservice.  I'm sure he's put a lot of work into being a "natural at everything".

Fair enough on the 2nd point, but we disagree on the first. He developed well enough to be a stud at Oregon, but there's no evidence to go on that he is a stud in pro ball yet. I think we agree he has an excellent chance at being one! I just want to see it.

I don't get it.

You have highly touted HS players that are deemed ML ready at 19 or 20 years old and yet folks think highly touted college players need a similar period in the minors to develop.  Do you think college baseball is worthless?

Was he playing intramural softball this whole time?

No, I don't think college ball is worthless at all, I'm just asking for like one half season of ABs to confirm that, yes, the guy can hit. Let him get comfortable playing every day. It's been quite literally years since he's done that. If he looks good, by all means bring him up.

What's the last team to put a guy this highly touted on their ML squad with 130 AB of low A experience?
