2023 Infield

I think part of the concern is that we might be getting close to contention with other parts of the team. DH and the OF seemed to be stacking up. Many hope to see AR at some point next season. The starting rotation has several young guys on the verge of being MLB ready. It's easy to build a bullpen. If we are ready to compete for a playoff spot (even a wildcard one) next season, we will need some competent play around the infield. If these guys aren't ready, will we spend? Will we just wait another year?

Off to a good start so far, minus Mountcastle.

2B - Vavra (24) - .954 OPS AA

3B - Westburg (22) - 1.065 OPS A

SS - Henderson (20) - .990 OPS A 

We also have the #6 pick in this year’s draft and likely #1 in next year’s. Shortstops could be in play with those. Plus we still have guys like Mayo, Hall, Jones, Nevin, Hernaiz, Ortiz, etc...

Infield isn’t the black hole it used to be for our organization.

This works if Henderson or Westburg can actually play SS. Not sure if that is really the plan. Maikol Hernandez is another possibility there. MLB.com has him in our top 20, ahead of Hernaiz and Ortiz. I agree, not a black hole but I also wouldn't say we are completely set either.

I like this.  Ortiz maybe in the mix as well.  SSS, but Westburg, as well as Henderson, has been MASHING in Delmarva.
