Hyde had said he would be activated after 10 days but I am not hearing anything.

Anyone hear any update?

He went on the IL retroactive to July 20 so he was actually eligible to come off this past Saturday.

Sure, at the time of the injury they said they hoped he would stay the minimum, but if you still believe that type of thing I can't help you much.  Just about every initial public pronouncement about the duration of an injury turns out to underestimate the duration.

However he is on the road trip and has been in the dugout for games, so that's a good time.  And I think I heard something about him pitching to batters yesterday.  So he might be close.

Per Roch today:

Update: Hyde said this afternoon that Rule 5 pick Tyler Wells, who threw a batting practice session yesterday, could be reinstated from the injured list Wednesday or after Thursday’s off-day.

“Will be nice to have Tyler pitch in big spots later in the game,” Hyde said.

If we traded Wells for Pop straight up, I’d say we won. Wells has the potential to start or be a top backend bullpen guy.

Could’ve had both, but it’s water under the bridge.  I like Wells a lot.

I could see him taking Wells spot after tonight’s game.  Wells is most likely the odd man out anyway with Zimmerman coming back anytime now.  We can go with 4 starters til next Tuesday which would allow Zimmerman another rehab start before joining rotation.

I just looked we have another off day on Monday so no need for a 5th starter for 10 days.

If you want a real comparison, compare Pop to Isaac Mattson because Elias chose to protect him over Pop. A head scratcher for sure. I believe the best defense I had of that decision was that Elias had information that Pop was still not healthy. Apparently he was healthy and now I guess we'll have to see who has the better career, but it doesn't look good for Elias and the Orioles right now.

I gotta say, in the little we've seen from Mattson, he looks like kind of a nothing pitcher right? Stuff certainly didn't wow me. That said I would like to see more because he seemed to be decently touted as a "ML ready" guy in that trade.

Zach Pop currently has a 4.93 ERA and a 1.487 WHIP in 38.1 IP. Can we stop being sad about him already?

I tend to agree man. I get that we could have had both guys and that's a fair criticism, but... meh? Travis freakin Lakins put up killer numbers as a reliever in a similar role last season.
