I'm already over this offseason.

The Scherzer deal is nuts.  He's still really damn good, but he's in his upper 30s and 3 years at that range is still a risk.

However, IMO, we're in an era where his age might not matter too much.  Sports medicine and training is light years from what it was 20-30 years ago.  Guys are playing better for longer.  Look no further than Tom Brady.

Scherzer has been durable...but man, 43.3 million a year is a lot, I don't care how many years it is.

As for the Mets, desperation is a stinky cologne.

Might be the highest AAV contract ever, even on an inflation adjusted basis. Certainly in recent history. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/02/the-largest-mlb-contracts-by-aav.html

They had to do it to convince him to come back to the east coast.  He wanted to go out west.

Cohen is going to learn that you can’t buy a title though.

Still, he has arguably the 2 best pitchers in baseball in his rotation now.

You might be able to buy an NL East division title right now.   Looks like he intends to find out.

Yes.  He's a staunch union guy so he wanted to set a record before doomsday on Wednesday.

Let’s see if the Braves bring back Freeman. They get Acuna and Soroka back on a defending champion team. I think they’re still easily the favorites.

Rooting for the Braves to repeat in the division at least.  Would like to see Cohen flail about and continue to throw money at his problems.  I don't hate the Mets but if they want to be the NL Yankees, let them.

Wow, I thought Robbie Ray was returning to the Jays.

He was someone I wanted us to consider this offseason, before he won the Cy Young and drove his price up.  I don't know if I like him at 5/115.  I think I might actually prefer the Gausman deal, strictly because Ray smacks of a guy who had a career year in a contract season.  Gausman has been good for two years (albeit a shortened 2020 season) in SF.  Can Gausman keep whatever magic he found in SF?  Remains to be seen.  Same with Ray.

Really interesting offseason.
