Ok, just getting caught up on this thanks to being in meetings this morning. My take: Povich is the headliner and although I have not gone and watched him yet (I'll do that tonight) all reports is that he's adding velocity and becoming a guy. A three pitch lefty with a good change can be an effective 4th/5th starter and if his velocity continues to tick up or the Orioles are able to get more out of his change, we have ourselves a future rotation piece.  Cano is a Cuban so he's a little

Trying to improve my familiarity with more advanced metrics, what numbers do you mean?  Things like K rate / BABIP against / barrel % / movement on pitches or spin rate?

What do you think is Jorge's problem?  Was he always likely to be this pitcher and this is who he truly is?   

Was the first four months in Baltimore a mirage?  Did he just get lucky?  

Is his personality a little fragile for the closer spot?   

Whatever it seems obvious that Elias did the right thing by getting a nice return for him.

Everyone including myself does this. We assume that since a player has been dealt that their production remains the same had it been if they stayed. Now clearly you have you have players who have overachieved and or lack a history of success. Perhaps Lopez regresses had he stayed but we are dealing with human beings and not robots.

Depends on how you define luck.  His ERA was lower than what it should have been.  He was a sub 2 ERA guy for us.  All of his numbers suggested he was more in the 2.50 area, give or take.  

His control has been an issue it looks like.  11 walks since he got there.  17 while he was here.

Is he throwing something different?  Going through a mechanical change?  Did Minnesota tinker with something and mess him up?  Is he just in a rut because of the trade?

I think there was some level of regression in terms of his ERA going up some.  But the rest of his stats were really good.  Outside of his BB rate, there are still very good.

People were worried about the psychological effect the trade might have on the Os as a team, and it didn’t really seem to. But maybe it had an effect on Lopez. I’m sure it was hard for him to leave here with the camaraderie the BP had in particular. 
 

not all of it but not shocking if that’s part of it.

I said he was an extreme confidence player. When things are going well he’s able to go on sustained runs. When he’s bad he usually strings them to together as well. I think he’s less aggressive when things are going bad… goes from pitching to throwing

People do forget the human side of the sport. He was an unexpected success story for us and a hero basically. In Minnesota he was a hired gun AS that was expected to produce like an AS. 
 

If the twins non tender Lopez then I think we’d 100% bring him back. He could link back up with Holt and be our 7th/8th inning guy we so desperately need.

      I don’t consider a 4 o’clock game a night game. He also caught Wednesday night and Thursday day this week. Moral of the story is McCann will start 4 games in 7 days because he is Burnes preferred catcher.

      It is absolutely possible. In 2022, the Mets gave a QO to Bassitt, Nikki, and DeGrom. The Red Sox gave a QO to Boegarts and Eovaldi. The Yankees gave a QO to Judge and Rizzo. The Dodgers gave a QO to Turner and Anderson. I know that it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Santander will not be on the team after this season, and while I generally agree that it is more probable than not that he will not be re-signed, I do think there is a non-zero chance that he will be retained. I think he is the most likely of Mullins, Hays, and himself to be retained, even if it is a small chance. The team has told us how they feel about his bat because he plays essentially everyday, and I have heard Kostka say that they value his clubhouse presence.

      Santander won’t get a QO, and if he did, he would accept. His defense is declining and we have too many capable youngsters who should replace him effectively. But to your question, I don’t know if there’s a limit, but I doubt it.

      O's will probably have to wait till July for a trade because there are so many more buyers than sellers.  I think teams like the Blue Jays, Rays Tigers and Mets are likely to be sellers but they are still in the race although not very good teams as constituted.

      The team's continued success has really put Elias on the spot IMO and I don't see a Flaherty type as an option anymore.  My money is on a sensible trade that comes at a price high enough that most of us here, including myself, won't like, but a premium comes with having bad luck and that's where the O's are at the moment.
