Adley at 1st base

Adley was taking grounders at first today during warmups. Precursor to a Nevin/Stowers move? A way to keep his bat in the lineup without potentially losing the DH as the games are managed tighter coming down the stretch?

So we dumped Mancini and don't have a backup at IB.

But Nevin plays 3B when he plays. I don’t see a coincidence. I think Hays is banged up and he’s playing through it. I’m sure they all are. 162 and all. So maybe this is a way to get Adley, Santander, and Mountcastle in, when Adley needs a break from catching.

Any catcher who can snag a pitch on a bounce like Rutschman did last night in the 9th inning can play first base for me any time.

Adley played 28 games at 1B last year, so he’s no stranger to the position.

Ftfy….I hardly think what Nevin does at 3B can be called playing the position, but opinions vary.

Both Adley and Santander occasionally take reps at 1st.  I wouldn't let it speculate that a move might be happening (as much as we would like one to take place).  1st is a relatively easy position to learn and the more players that can play it in a pinch, the better.

Both Adley and Santander can be seen taking reps at first in this video from June.

I have a clear track record on this board of not being the biggest fan of Santander, but with that said I do love his energy in video clips like that.

I’m not trying to get off topic, but I am a huge Santander guy. I think he and Adley are the two best hitters on the team. I think his HR off of Luetge to beat the Yankees was low key one of the most important moments of the year, and helped start the turn around. I think a lot of people want to move the wrong outfielder (read: Hays). I think his ability to switch hit makes him fit the current ballpark better than a strictly right handed bat. I think he could be competent at first. I could make a lot more statements, but I think my feelings about Santander are pretty clear.

Seriously even DJ Stewart would be more useful as a left handed backup 1B/DH  and pinch hitting option.
