If you could only keep one of these 2 players...

If you could only keep 1, and you had to choose between Jorge Mateo and Ramon Urias, who are you keeping on the Orioles? And why?

This is purely for a hypothetical trade scenario.

Urias and it really isn't close for me.  Much more steady of a player,  rarely gives away at bats.   Less flashy, but much more solid and consistent.

More consistent?  Urias average OBP slugging and Ops by month over last two seasons.

April 22   .194/.239/.224/.463

May 22.   .260/.309/.477/.787

june 22.    .167/.211/.556/.766

July 22.     .329/.380/.575/.955

August 22  .221/.262/.368/.631

Sept. 22     .258/.370/.371/.741

April 23      .261/.354/.348/.702

May 23       .222/.300/.278/.578

Urias is a great defender and is versatile but  has no speed, doesn’t hit for great average, doesn’t hit for many extra base hits and up and down.  He will be 29 this week so we know who he is.

Mateo has tools other guys in the system don’t have with top level speed, and excellent defense.  You basically have another Urias in the system in Ortiz that can do the same type things with the glove and has higher upside with bat imo.  If we could swap Urias for a quality left handed reliever I would do it in a heart beat and let Ortiz take his utility role.

Yes, more consistent.  His lowest OPS in that list you posted was .463 and highest was .955.  Compare that to Mateo who just over the past 2 months has a high of 1.044 and a low of .285!  If you removed the highest and lowest for Urias, he has had between .578 and .787 every month.  Mateo, over the same span and also throwing out his highest and lowest, had had a high of .819 and a low of .502.  So yeah, overall Urias is more consistent overall than Mateo.  Certainly never as good as Mateo on his best, but also not as ice cold as Mateo can get for an extended period, more or less.  Honestly I don't want either starting on a regular basis and think the team will be better over all when one or both are not on the team any longer or are in a pure utility/substitution role.

Why do folks follow up "gut feel" comments with amazing facts to the contrary??

Well done with the analysis.  That's not very consistent at all.  Right now, I'd trade both of them.
