I'm not sure how Porvich is the equivalent to someone who has already made the majors.  Of course I don't see what there is about Povich that is interesting aside from the K rate.

That’s too bad. He’s having a good season. Would have liked to have added a bullpen piece like that. 
 

But then again, it kind of sets the market for what a reliever like that can command in a trade. Not too mad about him being swapped for two minor leaguers.

I'm giving Povich some benefit of the doubt because he's younger and has shown better K rates in the minors, but I'm not as high on him as some around here, and I agree that you could make a good case for Ragans as a more valuable asset. Which would further push back on the idea that the O's could have "easily" beaten this offer.

Maybe not. Rangers might be willing to pay more early.  Chapman could get hurt or revert to last year.

You need so much more context than to shake your head at a deal that you think the Orioles should have beaten. 

No report that the Orioles were also interested.

No report of what would have been asked for out of the Os farm.

A headscratcher is like "Orioles stand firm at trade deadline despite 3rd best record."

Ragans was 1st round, has had excellent AAA results, and not drowned in his first 65 MLB innings.     Like Dane Dunning, he was a 2022 SP who got thrown to long relief as TEX signed every pitcher in the world last winter.

Elias is training us to expect Best Case outcomes almost as a matter of routine with anyone he hand picks (sorry Grayson and DL), and I do like our guys.    But even if Povich checks boxes for KC like he does for BAL, they might see Ragans as that guy another couple seasons more developed.

He is a double Tommy John already though.

Elias has been exactly the same as any other Oriole GM in the last 25 years thus far in his tenure in the specific arena of trades .. small and non risk taking and unimaginative and always mostly dictated by the economics of Angelos et al. 
 

I have patiently waited, supporting and understanding the rebuild process .. but if he does not go bold this month, no matter the rationale.. I will not be supportive of that.

Sure, if he doesn't trade for some pitching by the deadline this year I'm going to be really pissed. But there's no point being pissed on July 1st.

      Trade for trout while his is stock is low. Bit of a gamble, but he's a leader that needs a change of scenery. He is our RF/ DH middle of the order RH bat to replace santander  If we can keep him healthy, he might be the veteran presence we need. We have the salary space for his contract

      I'm rooting against the Yankees this weekend. Hasn't gotten close to that point for me. The 2016 WC game was the worst because of the Britton situation. The 2014 Royals series was awful. I don't know that this loss was even as bad as last year's vs the Rangers where it felt like we could go all the way. This was just a wild card team vs a wild card team that could go either way, and some bounces didn't go our way and young players couldn't handle the pressure. It's best-of-3, it happens.

      I'm older than most here. The pain of being a sports fan in Baltimore in 1969 make this year's playoff sweep seem trivial. All three of our local pro teams had great regular seasons. The Colts were a sure thing to beat the upstart Jets in Super Bowl III. No way the mighty Orioles would lose to the Mets in the World Series. And I thought for sure the Bullets might beat the Knicks in the NBA semifinals. Talk about long lasting pain ...

      Come on man, that's a crock. I've been as frustrated as anyone watching Adley's approach at the plate and his uppercut swing. But to say he's the kind of guy that makes excuses is way out of line. I have no doubt Adley will work on getting his body, swing and mind right in the off-season.

      I was given three free tix to see them in Durham in '23. They oversold the tix, ie. the seats were not assigned, first come / first serve,  the line to get in was ridiculously long, and we had to stand in the miserable heat and humidity of a NC summer.  Worst baseball in person experience of my life. Just goofy from the little I got to see in the three person deep standing room only crowd. We left after three innings or whatever they call it in their version of the game. Way too loud, too. Just too much BS going on. It was like the baseball version of drinking WAY too much gin and fruit punch and the wild colors give you the bed spins.
