My Thoughts on Today’s Game

See, I largely disagree with those takes.  There's been 3-4 plays that maybe a platinum glove ss makes and he has failed to, but he's still been excellent defensively, including making a game-saving play last night, that was unfairly maligned.

He has not been as good defensively this year as last, when he was a platinum glove ss, but he is still excellent.

But that play tonight?  Yeah, that's a clear E, and he has to make that play.

The stats say you are wrong here. He has issues this year defensively. I’m not sure I would call him excellent but that could just be semantics.

He’s definitely very good but he’s not even in the GG conversation this year.

It's a tough break, but the Orioles are resilient and you are not gonna win every one run game.  Not a criticism, but coming into Philly it was clear we wanted Cano and Bautista to get a few days rest.  I was surprised to see Cano get the call in the 9th as he has seemed the most gassed of the two.

But play again tomorrow with a chance to take another series.  Hope Gunnar is day to day.

No, because he's not playing every day.  For one, he'd probably be better if he was playing every day imo.  Kind of the reverse DH effect.  Two, he'd be hitting enough to have an everyday job, which would make people feel more forgiving with him.  For God's Sakes, he literally just made the defensive play of the game last night to greatly help win, and now everybody wants to cut him because he made a clear E, and bring up him diving in the hole to have a 113 mph scorcher glance off his glove as evidence.

I don't think he's here for the next few years, though it isn't an impossible scenario, but I don't think he's going anywhere in season.

He has no place on the team/organization unless you want his speed in the playoffs.

Otherwise, the presence of Ortiz and the improved SS defense by Gunnar makes him a worthless player.

He's certainly not worthless.

He is to the Os. He just doesn’t have a place here unless the sole purpose is to keep him for the playoffs for pinch running. Otherwise, you just don’t need him. Too many guys have passed him.

Well, I'm certainly not going into exit scenarios with the mindset that Jorge is worthless.

Bradish and Cionel.

1. Your team stakes you to 3-0 lead and you walk the lead off man on 4 piches and 2 of the first 3.

2. Cionel comes in and walks the first two batters and then a seeing eye single.

Tonight our pitchers didn’t make the other team beat them.  They beat themselves.  No bueno!

I skipped the 3rd and 4th inning to eat dinner.  While I was watching, Bradish retired 14 of the 15 batters he faced and seemed in complete command.  I honestly don’t understand what happened to him in the two innings I missed.  But I’m glad I misse them.

No more dinner during games for you.

Totally agree with all of this.  I still think we need a bat, a Reliever, and a starter.
