Lol David Wells

Wells, who last pitched in 2007, believes that teams “coddle” players today. The perfect game author also feels that modern players lack camaraderie — he called them out for wearing headphones in the clubhouse and hiding in backrooms — and feels they need to hold each other accountable more.

Analytics are ‘ruining the game’

Wells, who also pitched in San Diego, said he’s gone to one Yankees game and one Padres game this year. Aside from that, Boomer doesn’t pay much attention to baseball these days.

Wells is not a fan of how prevalent analytics have become. He feels that they are “ruining the game.”

“These guys don’t have free will to be themselves and go out there and try to find their own identity because they’re having an identity brought to them,” Wells said. “There’s a game plan. Our game plan was go out there and win. How are we going to do it? Best nine guys are gonna play.

“I’ve talked to certain GMs over the years since these analytics came in, and a lot of them don’t like it. But it’s just the way it is. That analytic guy has given you all the information. And if you’re not doing it, get rid of the analytic guy. Maybe go back to real baseball.”

Wells also said that advents like the pitch clock and an emphasis on creating offense are “deteriorating the game.”

Must be the day for this.
Redditor watching rain delay of Sox game.

They’re trying to kill time in the studio now and TC asked Rice about his favorite chocolates, and Rice said that he’s “not really a chocolate guy”. And Papelbon just responded with “what do you mean? Look at you, you’re a chocolate guy” and Rice VERY much did not appreciate the joke

Fucking Christ Pap… I know you’re the most unhinged mother fucker on the planet, but don’t TRY to get yourself canceled

The average baseball player isn't an erudite individual to begin with and aren't in a field of endeavor in which they need to master the art of public speaking.

Being characters is all they got.

He’s entitled to his totally wrong opinion.

It's funny to me that the old-timers who advanced metrics can have such a disdain for them.  David Wells rWAR is 53.4, hardly anything to sneeze at.  Joe Morgan was a guy that advanced metrics and analytics would have absolutely adored and yet he didn't care for them.
