you are not..the family is close to me...I was the first to interview Coby on the day he was drafted...His story is unbelievable...maybe you can find it on this page's archives...

Yes I have seen it. I'm very sure you're bullish, and I think most of us are as well.

The kid's got all the tools and has enjoyed a meteoric rise thus far. I just hope his glove is sufficient.

I'd be fine and dandy with Coby having a Troy Glaus-like career!  :)

My brain would only let me remember the tail-end of Glaus's career but damn, there were some years where he was an absolute monster:

.781 OPS in 1999

1.008 OPS in 2000

.898 OPS in 2001

.805 OPS in 2002

.807 OPS in 2003

.930 OPS in 2004

.885 OPS in 2005

.868 OPS in 2006

.839 OPS in 2007

.856 OPS in 2008

That's a 10 year average OPS of .867 with is 30 homers per year, 26 doubles per year, 86 RBI per year and 82 runs scored per year.

Yeah, I'll take that from Mayo all day.

In order for Mayo to get a promotion to the majors he will have to have  his glove catch up to his bat.

Elias cares about defense.  The O's have the 4th best fielding percentage in the majors.   Elias will not want to see the O's fielding slip to get another potent bat.   They have too many players that can both play defense and hit well at 3B for that  which includes both Westburg and Ortiz.

Mayo fielding percentage at 3B this year is .919.    Urias is .966,  Gunnar's is .968, Westburg's is at AAA is .956 and in the majors is .976.   Ortiz is 1.000 at AAA in only 9 games.  But Ortiz is known for his glove.

Some may say move Mayo to 1B.   His fielding percentage at 1B is .985 compare to Mountcastle at .997 and O'Hearn at .996.

Bottom line Mayo has some work to do on his defense to get a promotion to the majors.

If only there were a place where we discussed minor leaguers...

I really don't care where this gets posted but others do.

Anyway, it's gotta be a good day if you're reminded of Garabez Rosa.

Yes .. if I am Mayo, I hope my career is better than the trio of previous Baysox winners, Pickering had 95 big league game appearances with .223 lifetime, Lou Montanez was in 129 games over 4 years also with a .223 lifetime BA, and Garabez never made the bigs.

If I was Mayo, I might refuse the award lol

I think the infield will pan out with Gunnar at 3B, Ortiz at SS, Holiday at 2B, and Mayo at 1B. Kjerstad is probably DH.  I think Westburg may end up in the corner OF opposite of Cowser. Would like to see the O's extend Mullins on a 4 or 5 year deal this offseason

Not saying he isn’t a good player, but Mayo and Ortiz seem like the guys we just don’t have room for on the infield. I’d trade them for arms

There is no hurry on Mayo getting to the majors.    He can stay at AAA and work on his defense for a year or more.

    • Yes that is what happened last year to Adley.  I hope it is not a repeat even though this is someone from the Royals not Rangers where they stuff the ballot boxes and beat him out. Or the Yankees fans who think we are so evil vote for anyone going head to head against us.
    • And 2 steals. Good enough to put him at .726 OPS and 39 SB through June. Cowser only put up a .795 OPS there. All things considered, EBJ only maybe is slightly under where we hoped he would be. I’d still like to see him finish up in Bowie.  The ASB is June 15-18. Any word on if EBJ has made the team?  I think we could see him promoted afterwards possibly???
    • Both are more of regular season arms. They’re not going to be back end arms in the pen. Suarez wasn’t used like that in his brief stint. He pitches to contact vs hunting for Ks. Both are suited to be regular season SP or bottom half of your pen relievers.
    • I hope Adley beats out Perez. I believe this is where he lost to Heim last year. Mounty and Westburg will likely lose heads up.
    • We have an off day to give Mounty an extra days rest. We have an off day next Monday as well with the ASB looming. Mounty is close to making the ASG so I doubt he wants to hit the IL.  Meaning a RP would have to go for Mayo. I think we’re trying to keep Urias this season and move on from him in the offseason. Mayo is on target to be added as our extra player in September unless we have an injury.  It sure would be nice to bring Mayo up and let him get a ton of ABs to be ready for the playoffs.  At the end of the day, what’s worth more?  Urias as an insurance policy that shouldn’t get ABs in the playoffs, or developing Mayo that should get playoff ABs?
    • When Kremer comes back and if we get a #3 starter, would that help bolster the pen? You can move Suarez and Irvin/Povich into the pen.
    • Those three starts were going against @NYY, @Hou, and Texas. He’s slated to go @Oak with an extra day of rest.  We have to differentiate between regular season SP and playoff SP. Just like how we have to do with regular season RP and playoff RP.  Irvin, Povich, Kremer, and Suarez, are fine options to get you through 162.  Burnes, and Grayson, are our playoff options right now. We need a game 2/3 SP. The playoff RP core looks to be Kimbrel, Cano, Webb, Coloumbe(if healthy), and Perez. It would be nice to add two arms to the playoff RPs.
