It’s interesting to note that Earl Weaver never won manager of the year.  I’d forgotten that.  

Hyde got 27 of 30 votes, and was 2nd on the other 3 ballots.  Landslide.

The award didn’t start until 1983 and Tony La Russa was the first AL winner. Unfortunately for Orioles fans neither season of Earl’s second stint as manager was successful enough to merit such consideration.

If anything Weaver was deserving in 1973 with a revamped and running Oriole team.
