Santander wants O's extension.

“I would love that,” Santander said in the clubhouse Tuesday of signing an extension. “That’s something that we always talk about outside of this room with my family and friends. I would love to stay here. We leave that business side to the front office. We’re just here to live in the moment right now, prepare ourselves. We have a nice group and I really think we can make it longer in this postseason with these players.”

Orioles’ Anthony Santander, entering final year of contract, ‘would love’ long-term extension (msn.com)

I guess it makes sense seeing how Hays spoke out a full two years before he reaches Free Agency, that Santander makes his feelings known as well. The O's just have so much corner OF depth behind him, I dont see an extension coming. It still doesn't hurt to ask.

Would any baseball player approaching 30 years old and the end of their arbitration years say they don't want an extension?

Sure.  Corbin Burnes is the same age as Santander, and also a year from free agency.  He’s made it pretty clear he’s not interested in an extension.

Santander isn't exactly a market-setting type of Free Agent that Burnes probably will be, not that that means anything.

Well, sure.  But some players prefer security and continuity, others prefer to have a full range of options and want to bet on themselves.

If Santander has another season similar to last year, he could be looking at 4-5 years, $80-100 mm as a free agent.  Thats not market-setting, but it’s not chicken feed either.

    • The outfield might be slick from all the rain. I think that can influence lineup decisions.
    • @Bahama O's Fanor a free trial of any streaming platform. YouTube TV, Directtv, etc.
    • I’ve been rending my garments over Adley and his struggles for months now. But I will say that it seems like a bit of an odd time to come together as a group on the notion of benching him — just as he’s been starting to show some signs of being Adley again.  Over the last week of the season, Adley had a 50% hard hit rate and an average EV of 89.9 MPH. Those numbers absolutely dwarf what he was doing for months, when he was sitting at more like a 26% HH rate and an 85 MPH EV. Anecdotally, I can’t even remember the last time we saw Adley drive a ball into the left-center gap like he did multiple times against MIN. That’s Adley at his very best, and it was a sight for sore eyes.  I’m not sold that he’s 100% back, and I would still stick with McCann catching Burnes tomorrow (especially since using Adley as the DH is viable with a LHP starter in Ragans). But I sincerely doubt we can run the table without at least a few stretches of Adley being Adley — so I think this recent spurt is probably enough to warrant sending him out there every day still, in hopes that he really is getting it locked back in.
    • Apparently, if you just waited to buy tickets, you could just basically go for free. Well done orioles.
    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
