Really hopeful that Basallo can come up sometime mid way through 2025 and give Adley more of a break.

I really like the idea of finishing out the last few weeks at the next level.  I think it gives them a taste of what they need to work on as well as the motivation to do it.

Best part about this, he hit a home run the pitch before this but the umpire called it foul. everyone including the Jacksonville announcers thought it was a home run. So what do he do on the next pitc

Looks like Basallo won't hit #1 this offseason.  Maybe he has a chance next spring/midseason 2025, depending on his AAA performance.

Mayo and Crews I bet both stick in the list.    They are about as likely to surpass 130 AB as 2022 Gunnar Henderson.

I almost look forward to next year when Honeycutt or EBJ is a normal #1 prospect maybe around 30th MLB-wide.    Provided all the biggest talents are on the Orioles.

Looks like Darren McGaughan (30 MLB innings of 8.00 ERA) will be the opponent as Basallo starts seeing AAAA Up/Down slop artists a little bit more frequently.    His stuff will probably not be as hot as Jackson Jobe's Saturday night.

A couple things…

It’s good to see Basallo hit a lefty vs lefty HR. Especially of the AAA variety.

Basallo just turned 20 like 3 weeks ago. 

He’s had 7K in his first few games but that he’s adjusting. 

Dylan Crews started out on fire, and the Nats are batting him leadoff. The cutoff is 130 PA. Crews is at 13 PA through 3 games. The Nats have 28 games left. It’s going to be close, but if the Nats sit Crews even 3 games he’ll stay under. We’ll see. 

Holliday graduated from prospect lists last night.

Are we talking about Basallo being ranked the no. 1 prospect in baseball?  I haven't looked closely at his competition, but don't believe Crews should be under consideration.  He played decently in Double A/Triple A, but did not set those leagues on fire the way a top ten MLB prospect, who is already 22, should.

He'll be #1 on some lists. Fangraphs only has Jackson Holliday and Junior Caminero ahead of him, both of whom will graduate soon. 

Lawlar and Mayer can't stay healthy.

Carson Williams is his main competition in my eyes.

Hard to make a case for Williams, when Basallo is two years younger and outhit him at the same level.  Carson is very good defensively, so perhaps that could be weighed more if Basallo is looked at as a player who will need to move to first base.  I would still rank Carson Williams over Dylan Crews. 

I did a quick review of the top prospects on MLB Pipeline and unless there is some other guy outside the top 20 who is going to shoot up the list to no. 1, it looks like Basallo to me.

It resulted in a Single, but breaking ice midway through one Thursday evening showing up among the AAA EV leaders alongside future long term opponent Kristian Campbell.

      I think most people that follow this club feel similarly. But that's because we have months of this team being mediocre to go off of. They aren't the team that played well the first 2 months any longer. I think folks need to accept that performance isn't in them and is long gone, for a myriad of reasons.

      Absolutely agree. When we look back on this season, I think that's how it's going to be remembered...that while were able to navigate minimal injuries in 2022 and 2023, this was the year the tide turned for us in a big, big way...the first half of the season was fantastic and in the second half the injuries proved to be insurmountable.

      The sad thing is -  I thought this team was very entertaining the first half of the season.  It seemed we were hitting and getting on base more.   We were stealing bases and taking extra bases on balls put in play.  The defense was much sharper.   We had more of pitching staff in tact.  Then the injuries, the collapse of our closer, the big drop in offensive production, the head-scratching trades and acquisitions,  the sloppy defense, and the Burnes issues. The only bright spots in the second half are the 5 weeks of Tony, a resurgence of Cedric, and Zach Elfin.

      I appreciate the effort. But these numbers don't apply because we know that Akin is awful with runners on and in high leverage situations and we need to consider O'Neill's dominance against lefties, so a homer isn't the only consideration. He's decently fast (above average) *and* he can hit doubles or even triples with that goofy ass wall and dead center's orientation. Probably here is that Akin isn't going to attack O'Neill, so we know he's going to put him in a position where he's going to rip something.

      A hit or walk plus a sac fly also wins it in the IBB scenario.   Setting aside matchups, the generic expected runs goes from 1.18 to 1.57 and probability of 2+ runs goes 27% to 40%. Those are some pretty big numbers. I am guessing Akin was told to stay away from O'Neil for one of those "intentional-unintentional" walks in the worst case scenario. So it really should have been a K, sac fly, or walk if Akin executes.  Watching the replay, I don't get what they were going for. Adley sets up outside but shifts inside with the pitch. So it looks like he called for an inside pitch which seems like a really bad idea. Were they trying to bury it in the dirt and Akin left it up? The first pitch was a FB in the dirt, also inside.  Anyway, my unscientific "blame percentage" is something like 70% on Holliday for booting the grounder, 20% on Hyde for burning Cano, 8% on Akin for the pitch execution, and then like 2% on Hyde for making the wrong call in hindsight on a 50/50 IBB.

      I'm still watching as many games as I can, except on Sunday when I'll watch the Commies instead, probably. I feel the same way you do, though.  Totally unexcited about this team...Prepared for someone to sweep the leg in the playoffs and have it over with.
