Might as well with an open 40-man spot. Having the option is nice. See if you can figure something out with him in Norfolk.

13 walks in 10 IP this season. 8ER with 2 HRs allowed. His career BB/9 is 5.9 and K/9 8.3. He'll be bullpen fodder for Norfolk.

BA.  Most recent report.

Ranked Arizona Diamondbacks #18 prospect in 2022

Track Record: Martin rocketed through the Astros system, reaching the majors in 2019. Shortly after, he went down with Tommy John surgery and was subsequently dealt to the D-backs in the Zack Greinke trade. The D-backs thought they were getting a surefire rotation piece, but thus far Martin has yet to deliver on expectations, struggling to stay healthy in 2020 and then pitching poorly in the major leagues in 2021.

Scouting Report: There weren’t many bright spots to Martin’s 2021 season, in which he allowed 19 earned runs in 16 innings in the majors, but one was the fact that his pre-surgery stuff returned mostly intact. He sat in the 94 mph range with his fastball and exhibited the same movement profiles on his secondary pitches. Nothing he had seemed to fool big league hitters, however, and opinions vary on what went wrong. His command might have backed up and his confidence took a hit. He also was shut down again with more elbow problems, though he got back on the mound and was healthy before heading home for the offseason.

Played three seasons at Texas A&M University (2015-17), drafted by Houston Round: 2, Overall Pick: 56. Had TJS in 2019 and missed all of 2020. But before that got all the way to AAA and entered the season ranked as the Astros' No. 4 prospect by Baseball America and No. 5 by MLB.com. Earned the win in his Major League debut on May 12, 2019 vs. Rangers (2 ER in 5.1 IP)…was the fifth Astro to record 9+ strikeouts in his debut. Subsequently traded to Arizona in the off season.

Came back to MLB with D-backs but was ineffective in 2021 and 2022 and was optioned back to AAA. Shut down in 2023 due to another arm injury ((right lat tendon avulsion).  Doesn't appear to have pitched in 2024.

Apparently has talent but can't stay healthy.

Ten innings isn't much to go on for evaluating a pitcher that hasn't pitched in a year.

His old numbers aren't so bad... maybe he needs some time to knock the rust off... or maybe his velocity is gone... who knows...  cheap question to answer.

The front office is probably the best I've seen at scraping the dirt off half-eaten dumpster sandwiches, and turning them into decent meals.

The Tides are a little short on starters with Zimmerman going on the IL yesterday.

They have  Povich, McDermott, Armbruester, and Stalling.  5th starter spot is open.

They had a 40 roster spot open because of DFAing Yohan Ramirez.

All of Martin's AAA experience has been in the Pacific Coast League which is a hitters league.   Maybe he does better with Norfolk.
