Unless Tony Kemp just needed a few days at the major league level to qualify for some kind of pension or health care, that move still makes zero sense.

Baumann was definitely going to get claimed so it was nice to get something back for him, even if its just a potential backup to McCann (who looks done as a major leaguer at this point).

Hunt could just be a CYA thing if there is a guy out there with a June 1 opt out date that we’ve already identified.

It certainly goes to show the Orioles have a good team when almost all of their DFA's are claimed now. But that's exactly why having three options was put into the MLB system. This gives guys like Nevin, McKenna, Baumann major league opportunities when they would be stuck in AAA with the Orioles. while it stink for the Orioles to not have those depth players, it also give guys chances to becomes those depth players still in the system.

Eric Haase is having a good year in AAA on a milb deal. Brewers ties too. Currently with the Brewers AAA team. He had really good years in 2021 and 2022. He may have a June 1 opt out.

Just sayin… McCann might not be so safe. Haase is 4th on the brewers C depth chart. We have a good relationship with Milwaukee, or Haase could just opt out on June 1. 

Haase can even play some LF too.

It's hindsight, of course, but I thought it was odd that Elias would make that move now instead of doing his usual thing of delaying decisions as long as possible, and keeping as many guys as possible. The reason you do that is because of situations exactly like this. 

Who are we bringing up for Means? Vespi? Heasley? You can't tell me either of those guys are better than Baumann.

But I’m convinced the best RP in AAA is Luis Gonzalez. I don’t think he has options and he’s a lefty, so they probably will keep him stashed in AAA for now rather than lock up another non-optionable roster spot. But if he keeps putting up numbers like he has, he’ll get a look before the end of the year. 

Kade Strowd and Trey McGough also dominated AA, are in AAA now and have all their options, but they likely need AAA exposure and would need to be added to the 40 man roster so I don’t expect to see them until late in the year, if at all.

The Mets are paying most of McCann's contract, so I expect that he'll finish out the year with the O's if he remains healthy.

I believe the move has been announced as Heasley. I agree, now the shuttle gets up and running.

Yep, it was Heasley. He's been pitching outstandingly in AAA so we'll see if he's a better version of himself then the guy we saw at the beginning of the year.

His excellent porn 'stache aside, I don't expect much from Hunt.  He's hit well in limited playing time this season but otherwise he looks like a journeyman backup minor league catcher.   

He plays so infrequently that "Has anyone seen Blake Hunt?" is actually a legitimate question.

      I don’t consider a 4 o’clock game a night game. He also caught Wednesday night and Thursday day this week. Moral of the story is McCann will start 4 games in 7 days because he is Burnes preferred catcher.

      It is absolutely possible. In 2022, the Mets gave a QO to Bassitt, Nikki, and DeGrom. The Red Sox gave a QO to Boegarts and Eovaldi. The Yankees gave a QO to Judge and Rizzo. The Dodgers gave a QO to Turner and Anderson. I know that it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Santander will not be on the team after this season, and while I generally agree that it is more probable than not that he will not be re-signed, I do think there is a non-zero chance that he will be retained. I think he is the most likely of Mullins, Hays, and himself to be retained, even if it is a small chance. The team has told us how they feel about his bat because he plays essentially everyday, and I have heard Kostka say that they value his clubhouse presence.

      Santander won’t get a QO, and if he did, he would accept. His defense is declining and we have too many capable youngsters who should replace him effectively. But to your question, I don’t know if there’s a limit, but I doubt it.

      O's will probably have to wait till July for a trade because there are so many more buyers than sellers.  I think teams like the Blue Jays, Rays Tigers and Mets are likely to be sellers but they are still in the race although not very good teams as constituted.

      No Scott. He’s way too undependable. We need someone who WON’T enter a game and walk folks like he’s promoting a healthy lifestyle. He’s been a lot bette4 this season, but he’s too undependable, and we already have too many of those. No Flaherty either. That’s like taking your GF back after she cheated on you.

      The team's continued success has really put Elias on the spot IMO and I don't see a Flaherty type as an option anymore.  My money is on a sensible trade that comes at a price high enough that most of us here, including myself, won't like, but a premium comes with having bad luck and that's where the O's are at the moment.
