Yes, it would be next year's 23rd pick.  He should just go pro.  The sooner you prove yourself, the more bank you'll get.

Right.  The O’s are in the driver’s seat.   It would be a shame if he didn’t sign but we’d have two 1st round picks plus a CB pick in maybe a better draft.   There is a lot more downside for him if he doesn’t sign.

Yeah, I mean the whole thing with Honeycutt is that he’ll need to make adjustments to cut down the swing and miss. Without a change in scenery and coaching/development voices, it’s harder to see that happening.  Next year he’ll be another year older and presumably viewed as less malleable in terms of making adjustments. He might have slipped to the second round this year if it wasn’t for the Orioles. Next year he would have even less leverage to negotiate a bonus. I can’t see how it makes any sense to return to UNC.

At this point, Honeycutt's maximum signing bonus is $3,990,945?  Would he consider going back for his Sr year?

I would assume the Agent is going to ask for full slot, and whatever is left over from our 5% total overage.  That's the most we can offer anyways.  I would just give him that and be done with it.  Who cares about that one remaining JUCO dude.  He can take 150 or kick rocks.

The #21 pick got full slot.  I see nothing wrong with offering full slot and saying take it or leave it.   His agent would be a complete idiot to leave it.   I think they offered under slot hoping he’d cave in and will go to full slot to make the deal if they have to.   Probably why Elias feels good about it.  He knows what it will take to sign him and knows he can do it.

I assume we will sign Honeycutt, my question is whether we also squeeze in Salinas, and do we care?

I think it never hurts to add talent.  If the Orioles drafted him, they must have wanted him.  So, I guess I do care...and hope he signs.

I’m going to guess we get all 20 signed. Definitely different approach than last two drafts.

Not to toot my own horn but looks like 19 guys and one draft and follow. Great work by the Orioles.

20 of 21 signed.  The remaining was the draft and follow.  There's still time to sign him to $150k.

I'm ignorant of the draft-and-follow rules, so in my initial look into it I found this, which says the following:

"For players in rounds 11-20, the amount that won't count towards teams' bonus pools rises from $125,000 to $150,000."

The draft-and-follow rule returns, allowing clubs that select players who opt to attend junior college to sign them between the end of their juco season and the beginning of the next year's Draft. Any bonus amount over $225,000 will count toward teams' bonus pools."

Any clarification that you or any other smarter draft people can provide would be appreciated!

If we sign him before the deadline today, any amount above $150K will count against this year’s bonus pool (and the overage tax).

If we sign him between the end of his JUCO season and next year’s draft, any amount over $225K will count against next year’s 2025 bonus pool.

Got it. Wouldn't that incentivize him to not sign now?

Happy to see the Orioles go into their 5 percent overage for the first time in club history. Last year, two-thirds of teams did so.

If only they’d hire SG to negotiate these deals.  He would have given him a take it or leave it $3.5M offer and said “What are you gonna do?   Go back to school and have ZERO leverage next year!”
