So what is best scenario in the Red Sox and Yankees series.  Boston sweep helps us for sure on Yankees but then might bring them closer in the wild card standings.  If I had confidence right now I say sweep but still worried we could go in little tailspin and make it interesting.  I think Boston winning 3 out of 4 would work best.  It helps us vs Yankees and doesn’t jump Boston to hit streak.  If we won last night definitely would want a sweep?

I want Boston to win as much as possible. We're 8.5 up on Boston with 15 to go. That lead is pretty safe and if we do disastrously enough to make it not safe, we don't deserve to make the playoffs anyway.

Root for Boston in every game.  We are 8 games up in the loss column AND we have the tie break so essentially we are 9 games up on them.   They are basically no threat to us.   We would have to go just 6-9 and they would have to win out for them to catch us (and if that did somehow happen, they would hand the Twins 3 losses so the Twins would almost have to win out nearly every other game to catch us.   So Boston is absolutely zero threat to rob us of a playoff spot.)

RS are playing some Oriole ball tonight. Tied with the NYYs 1-1 in the ninth. 0 for 8 with RISP, only run scored on a solo HR.

Yankees are 0-5 with RISP and have stranded 9, only run having scored on a solo HR in their very first AB. The two teams have combined for 21 Ks.

I’m not sure we have a monopoly on this style of baseball. I think this is just baseball right now.

I watch my share of bad Orioles teams over the years but a part me feels like this has been one of the most discouraging of all. How good they looked the first couple of months to how bad they have been since June it's just extremely discouraging as a fan. I mean sure they are going to the playoffs thanks to that great first couple of months  but I have no hope of them doing anything from what I've seen for a good part of the season now.

That’s probably it. O’s just need to play better and then get on a roll for the WC round. Maybe it will be for the better.

It'll require a change of fortune, sure, but making up 2 games in a span of 15 is very doable.

The O's went from -2 to +0.5 on NYY, in a span of about 8 days, just a couple weeks ago.

In the context of it absolutely it is especially when you have 3 games the team you are chasing but my eyes tell me differently in what I've seen from this team for a very long stretch now.

Even though it is 2 games it is really just 1 if we win 1 in the series vs the Yankees.  We win 2 out of 3 in that series then we have 12 games to make up the other 1 game.  So saying it isn’t do able seems false but we have to play better for sure.  The Yankees are just middling around just like us.  They should have put us away already with all our injuries to the starters mid season and no the offense as well.

Yankees were losing 4-0 late. It’s now 5-4 Yankees in the 8th. O’s about to be 3 out of first if this holds.

KC also won, so we are only 2 up on them.

Gotta be the first time in a while we are closer to falling to the 5 seed than rising to the 1 seed.

    • That would be career suicide if someone was bold enough to be that stupid, lol.
    • I don't think so. There's really not a lot going well for them right now.
    • If we make the playoffs, he can’t be on the roster. I don’t care how many career saves he has.
    • Well, hmm. Ask the Phillies if they regret relying on Kimbrel in the playoffs. You may have your answer whether you want him on the roster IF the O’s hold onto a wild card spot. Or at this point, are you comfortable having him on the roster while trying to nail down that spot! I’m not and I’m sure his team mates cringe when they see him get up.
    • No one’s said that other top prospects don’t struggle.  There’s a sense of entire that ours shouldn’t, for some reason. I’m not sure why.  Maybe it’s because if Holliday and Mayo were hitting, this offense wouldn’t be performing so poorly like it has been for the past month or so. Maybe it’s because we’ve been conditioned to think that a lot of our guys are “can’t miss.” The only thing that’s missed are the pitches that Mayo and Holliday swing at night after night, game after game. In regard to Elias, it’s nice of him to offer himself up as someone who’s taking accountability, but they’re just words and they don’t really mean anything.  I used to work for an insufferable dickhead who’d “take accountability” and say things like “I’m responsible for this,” and “this falls on me,” and “I’m the one to blame here,” and “I accept the responsibility for this,” when things went wrong. And I’m not calling Elias an insufferable dickhead when I said that.  I’m saying that it’s easy to say those words because they’re what people want to/need to hear in a time where things are going sideways. But that’s the thing, those words don’t mean anything unless they’re said directly to someone who controls your fate or you fail to take action to rectify the situation, which is what made the guy I worked for an insufferable dickhead.  He said those things to us,-the employees- and then proceeded not to do anything to actually take accountability in his actions. So we’ll see what Elias does to rectify the situation in the offseason as I don’t think there’s much he can do this late in the season. I believe him when he said he didn’t anticipate this…and to be fair, none of the resident geniuses here who are calling for his head didn’t anticipate this, either.
    • Thx for the breakdown. We have to finish ahead of two of these four teams. Mariners and Tigers both 6 GB in loss column, but also the hottest two of the five teams. Therefore, an actual dogfight, who'da thunk? We also still have a 3G advantage over KC. The order of difficulty in schedule, offhand, looks to be: SEA, BAL, MIN, KC, DET.  So I see our best chances with the elimination of SEA (-6/7) and MIN (-4).
    • This team has had injuries of almost biblical proportions. 4 starting pitchers down, most for long periods of time, or all of the season. 4 in the starting lineup for extended periods of time, or out for the season. 2 key relief pitchers, and one closer that made all the difference last year.I defy ANY manager to win with all of those setbacks. On top of that, we have been starting as many as 4 rookies in the lineup if not all at once, then regularly. It's hard to expect the "light " to go on immediately. No, I can't blame Hyde but next year could be an even bigger challenge if the Orioles dont pursue at least 2 more starting pitchers and one TOR starter. We could lose Santander too, so we may need another MOO power hitter, and by MOO I dont mean Cowser. I DONT SEE THIS oriole team getting past the first round, and it looks like Grayson Rodriguez may not make it back either. Just horribly bad fortune...but I cant blame Hyde for that.
