Is Mullins the next to go?

I don’t think Cedric is going anywhere. The only veteran that I think is truly on the hot seat is Mountcastle.

Agreed that Cedric should stay. I think he is more valuable to us than whatever he would bring back. I like Mounty, but I don’t mind the thinking of seeing if he can be a piece to bring back more pitching. We would need to find a way to replace his numbers against LHP, especially with Hays gone. But maybe we can find a LHP masher relatively cheaply 🤷‍♂️

All these rumors about Mountcastle is a little bit confusing to me because I don't see anyone who has shown the ability to play as good of defense at 1st base as he has on the roster. (Granted, 2 games ago was not a good showing.) O'Hearn is deployed as a specialist against RHP and while serviceable, he hasn't shown as much of the ability to scoop up bad throws as Mountcastle has.

You specifically called out Cedric and said he "never had that in Philly".  That's a clear shot at Rojas who is a fine defender.

I don't get the tendency to dismiss players on other teams.  Other teams can have guys that are good.

It wasn't about Rojas.  He might be better than Ced defensively.  Philly isn't known for their defense.  And haven't been for a few years at least.  My post probably fits more in a Dominguez thread but Cedric's catch kickstarted the thought.

To flip the all too common tactic back:  You don't hope better defense helps Dominguez?  Clearly that's not the case.  But that's the broadbrush when making that type of swipe.

I don’t disagree. I’m not basing my thoughts off of any rumors. I’m mostly basing it off of Hays getting traded and Mayo knocking on the door.

For the record, I don’t think any other notable vets will be traded by the deadline. But I think Mountcastle’s spot is the most up in the air.
