I don't think there's any hard evidence specific to Mayo, just the observation that guys who come up as IFs but fail there defensively can become decent (or better) defensively at first base. Mountcastle is an example.

Love Burnes but he also should have not given up 3 runs and should have made it through 7.   Offense should have tacked on 3-4 runs.  Game should not be in doubt.

You don’t get rid of Mountcastle over hope. You let things play out.

Hays is on the DL which is a pattern with him. The guy has just never managed to stay healthy long term, and he wasn't going to be in our future plans.
