This Year Has Turned Into A Disaster.

You’re not really allowed to say that.

How guys happen to perform for a couple weeks in October is a matter of their character and personal makeup. It’s not random. How the team fares in those couple weeks is the only meaningful measure of its quality and the competence of those who built it. It’s not random.

After all, aren’t the storylines all the same things we’d talked about all season? No way CLE and PHI could rely on those shaky bullpens. And HOU and MIL were stuck counting on guys like Hader and Williams to shut down games, recipe for disaster. The LAD pitching would obviously outduel SDP when it counted, and the Tigers made the grave error of relying on someone like Skubal in a winner-take-all against Matthew Boyd. The Yankees are winning thanks to the production of the guys at the bottom of their lineup and by far the best closer in the playoffs.

As we all predicted, Bobby Witt, Manny Machado, Luis Arraez, Austin Wells, Josh Naylor are all among the very worst qualified hitters in the playoffs. And expectedly, the best hitters have been guys like Brayan Rocchio, Giancarlo Stanton, Mark Vientos, Jesse Winker, and Kyle Higashioka. And of course, it was basically a dead heat between Dylan Cease and Max Fried for worst SP in the playoffs — and an absolute runaway for Emmanuel Clase as the biggest one-man disaster in the entire playoffs.

What’s random?

And it happens every year. You would almost think people would stop with the choke comments.

The Orioles need a new manager. It happens. Hyde is not a bad manager. But his message has gotten stale, and he has developed a reputation of coming up short. It's hard to change that. The Orioles need someone with fresh ideas and a fresh approach.

It's actually super easy to change that.  All he has to do is win once.

The odds that any manager not winning a World Series with their current club are pretty good.

If you have some tangible evidence that Hyde's "message has gotten stale," I'd love to hear it.

My tangible evidence is the second half and playoffs.

I want Hyde gone but am willing to see what happens in 2025.  If the Orioles miss the playoffs or get knocked out early next year then I want the manager and ALL the coaches gone.

And Hyde does come across as a good drill sargeant and trains the troops but he can't lead the troops into battle like that training officer in "Band of Brothers" that couldnt read a map and whose nerve broke.  Thats Hyde to me.

THIS Yankee team getting into the WS before us, who probably had the better overall team, is a very tough pill to swallow.

It sucks. Orioles have the talent to do it. Adds to the frustration. My hope is the Yankees max out this year.

The NL this year at least was better than the AL. That adds to it as well.

Since 2009 when the Yankees were last in the World series, how many years did we think the O's could get there. Two, three maybe counting this year? The Yankee fans think they should get there EVERY year. So let them have there fun with an aging team and hope the NL team beats their ass so they have that to complain about too. I'll take our future to theirs. And yes, them being in the World Series gripes me!!!!

The Yankees just won more playoff games in a 2 week stretch than we have won in 27 years.  Literally.  And while that is in the past now and we are talking about the future, I wish I could feel confident that our future is better than theirs. They are a team that has not finished below .500 in 32 years, so they are never not in contention. And they have the money and willingness to go after players like Soto, who is a generational talent that can elevate the rest of his team.  He is a complete difference maker in October and those dudes don't come along often.  The Yankees can plod along in the regular season, but the reality is their offensive talent has really come through when it counts and ours flat out didn't.  So until our homegrown talent starts showing up in big games and until our ownership and management decide they have had enough of sitting at the kiddie table, they are going to be spending Octobers watching other teams win games.
