From Coastal Carolina's website:

CONWAY, S.C. – Former Coastal Carolina University baseball All-American David Anderson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) has signed a free-agent deal with the Baltimore Orioles, it was announced today.

Anderson hit .377 with 11 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs and 82 runs-batted-in for the Chanticleers. He was named the Big South Player of the Year as well as garnering All-Big South Tournament honors, becoming just the second player in conference history to earn that feat. He also was named a Louisville Slugger Third Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball. He hit his 49th career home run in the Big South Tournament championship game against Winthrop, passing Tom Romano to become the school’s career home run leader. He also hit his 50th home run in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional win over Kansas, becoming the second player in Big South history to have 50 home runs in his career. Anderson had eight game-winning RBI and a .732 slugging percentage. He had two home runs apiece in games against High Point and Gardner-Webb and hit .420 in Big South games. He also made just six errors on the year at first base.

Anderson will find out later in the week his assignment in the Baltimore organization.

Coastal Carolina ended the 2009 season after winning the Big South regular-season and tournament title. The Chants also had eight All-Big South honorees and four All-Big South Tournament selections.

Take a look at the GCL O's boxscore today. Anderson was a big time player in the lineup in his debut.

This seems a bit odd to me. Only twice as the best player in the league performed well in the conference playoffs?

Sounds like a pretty good player, how come he went undrafted?

Not sure who the prospects and suspects below Aberdeen are, but it would take some convincing that we have some decent bats down there. Hopefully, this guy will help those teams.

I had a few classes with him and have watched him play in college the past four years. I was really surprised he went undrafted I figured with his size and power that someone would at least take a chance on him in the later rounds. Anyway, he's a really good guy and it'll be cool to follow him through the system. Hopefully he can prove everyone that passed on him wrong.

If I'm interpreting all that stuff right, the first person to be Player of the Year and Tournament MVP was Terry Spires in 1986, and the only other person to have more than 50 home runs was Jason Colson with 53 from 1998-2001.
