Per Connolly: O's and LaRoche have interest in each other...

All I can say is "Go Nats!"

A .788 OPS while an improvement at 1B is not going to strike fear in any pitcher nor make other players in our lineup see better pitches.

Luke Scott and either Vlad or Thome at DH would be a better combination of offense than Luke Scott and LaRoche.

Yeah at most I want Lee on a two year deal. Anyhow supposing we get Lee or LaRoche, I imagine this is our default lineup.

Roberts: 2B

Markakis: RF

Lee/LaRoche: 1B

Scott: DH

Reynolds: 3B

Jones: CF

Wieters: C

Hardy: SS

Pie: LF

Wow how much better does this lineup look than last year?

I think I agree with this. I fear LaRoche may be a little too "punch and judy" for my tastes as far as first base is concerned.

Will you stop with the "strike fear" hyperbole?

I wouldn't mind Luke at 1B and a DH but you have to look at it from the other perspective. The O's FO and Showalter may not feel Luke is an adequate option at 1B. Someone pointed out on another thread that defensively 1B is much more than just stretching out your foot on the bag to catch the ball. And I don't think it's fair to call LaRoche a 788 OPS hitter when that was his worst OPS since 2005. He probably won't give us a 900 OPS this year but I think he can give anywhere between 800-840ish which if he gives us the D to help with it would be fine.

What I like about the future lineup is there are going to be no easy outs. Plus it's a good balance of righties/lefties/switch hitters. The thing I've liked that the FO has done in aquiring Reynolds/Hardy is not just their upsides as overall players but these dudes hit lefty pitching well. We have a lot of tough lefties in the AL East: Sabathia, Lester, Romero, Price, and Lee(if god forbid the Yankees sign him).

There isn't much supply left, so not sure why MacPhail is acting like this market is still flowing with opportunity. He must not be too put off by putting Scott / Reimold at 1B and signing another guy to DH.

Perhaps. But in the case of Scott, that begs the question why didn't that take place two years ago?

    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.

    • Was reading Wiggins write up on ESPN. He appears to be more of a home run threat than Koolaid. He had a pick 6 each of the last 2 years.
    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
    • I can’t fathom why anyone would want a Tanner Scott return. In 10 innings, he is 0-4 with a 1.78 whip. He was maddening before, and now he’s older. But I wonder if the Red Sox would part with Justin Slaten? He’s been pretty outstanding. Yeah, only 8 innings, but we hired Yohan Ramirez, and he’s been a catastrophe in 10. Yes, I know he’s a rule 5, and the Bosox are in the East. And their pitching is pretty thin, too. But they know they aren’t going anywhere in this division, and they might think getting a good return for a Free Rule 5 guy might be worthwhile.
    • This draft unfolded weirdly.  First with the *nix guys getting taken early and then how no defensive players got taken all draft, and then a bunch of teams reaching for OTs.  I'm pretty happy with how the draft unfolded because I think we got a player that I expected to be gone by the teens or early 20s.  I don't know what we're doing with our OL but hopefully we can maybe trade up from 62 to pick someone up.
