When, Andy MacPhail, of all people, was willing to send $10 million to unload a player, that should have sent up a warning signal bigger than the Batman one in Gotham City. Until Sammy, the biggest buzz that offseason was......Steve (de)Kline. Angelos got to have two 500 HR club guys in the same lineup, so he had a tingling feeling running up his leg.

The similarity is Sosa was totally driven by Angelos, and Guerrero might have been as well.

It appears its 5M this year and 3M deferred...but it won't be paid to him for a while.

Its a poor contract with upside potential of being good.

I was under the impression that some of it would be incentivized? I'd also like to know the structural of the deferral.

Has anyone reported on the details of the contract yet?

The Orioles signed Vladimir Guerrero to a one-year, the team announced. The SFX client will earn $8MM in total: $5MM this year and $3MM in deferred payments, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun (Twitter links). Zrebiec reports that Guerrero will get the $3MM several years from now.

The $3 million deferred will be paid out several years down the road when the #Orioles current long-term contractual commitments are gone.
