Take it for what it's worth, I've heard we are realllllly close on something with an AL West team which I will not name. Not Seattle. Or Anaheim for that matter. The quibble is over a fifth guy - we'll see. Maybe today - or maybe never. You know how these things go. But I was on the money last time - let's hope to make it two in a row!

Not Seattle... Not Anaheim... so it's either Texas or Oakland?

Oakland doesn't seem like it would make any sense, since they just traded away Haren. Then again, Beane has always loved Bedard. Still, makes no sense.

So Texas??? They have a lot of very solid prospects but I'm not sure if they have any elite players in the minors. Don't think they're trading Salty, either. So maybe that's why a fifth guy is involved?

John Sickel's top 10:

1 Taylor Teagarden, C, Grade B+ (would be a Grade A- if not for injury history)

2 Eric Hurley, RHP, Grade B+

3 Elvis Andrus, SS, Grade B+

4 Chris Davis, 3B, Grade B+

5 Matt Harrison, LHP, Grade B+

6 Michael Main, RHP, Grade B

7 John Mayberry Jr, OF, Grade B

8 Kasey Kiker, LHP, Grade B

9 Max Ramirez, C, Grade B

10 German Duran, 2B, Grade B

Gotta think it would include at least 2 of the top 5, if not 3...

Millar to Texas is the obvious thought, but that couldn't possibly be a five player deal. I don't know that Texas has what we need for Bedard.

My guess is Roberts (with either Ellis coming back or Crosby coming back and Ellis moving to SS for Oakland) or Bedard to the A's.

I hope we wouldn't choose Morrow over Clement.

Jones, Clement, Sherrill and one of Butler, Tillman or Triunfel would be great, although i don't expect the 4th player to be that good...But I guess you never know.

I assume Sherrill goes to the closer role....Hopefully he can pile up saves and AM looks to deal him at the deadline and then, in reality, we end up for 4-6 players for Bedard.

David Murphy's name should be on that list somewhere. I would think Hurley or Harrison, Andrus and Murphy would be in the deal.

If you can get Clement you get him and keep him. No one knows how Weiters will turn out. To not get Clement because we have Weiters would be more than foolish! You get him and if Weiters turns out to be the stud we all think/hope he is then you make a second move. Look at the haul Atlanta got for Salty!

Don't forget that Texas was in on Bedard early in the offseason.

Belkast referenced the Rangers as a possible surprise team but that we didn't like there prospects enough.

I don't think they have enough positional talent personally and I would worry we would take back a guy like Blalock in the deal.

    • I agree with this. The unfortunate part of that is it typically takes leaving to figure that part out. Most of us lack that ability to “recognize what we have” and resist the other.   With all that being said, I’m not sure that concept necessarily applies here. He could certainly move on, get the bag, and land in a place with good people and good opportunity.
    • It’s more than just not being Angelos.    People see the resources this group has relative to the Angelos family.  The stage of life many in the group are in. There’s a lot of people around the city with connections to the ownership group and you hear a very consistent theme of what the group is looking to do.
    • Imagine the shame of that player, always having an asteroid attached to his achievement in the history books.
    • Can we implement some sort of paragraph policy around here?
    • I'll be honest, wasn't on my radar until this post. I went back and watched his outing and all of your observations are right on in my opinion. Lots of swing and miss and definitely not a195 pounds lol. Has had command problem in past but not this outing.  I'll see what I an dig up about him but would be nice to have velo.
    • He's top ten for me easy. The real question is whether he's the team's best pitching prospect or not? Povich has it right now due to his success in AAA, but nobody brings the stuff that DeLeon brings consistently in the system. He's a taller Cionel Perez with a changeup.
    • Ha, I know you love your boy!   He is improving but while he's "versatile" in that he has experience at a lot of positions, he's not really good at any of them. He reminds me a bit of Rick Short but shorty was a better hitter overall albeit with a little less power than Cook. I still think he's an org guy but he may at some point work his way into a major league bench one day. There are worse guys who played in the majors for sure.
