TOR Trade Option - Jake Peavy

Peavy > Tillman IMO. Tillman is a mid rotation SP with the ceiling of maybe a #2. Peavy will be the best SP in our rotation by far, for this year and next.

I don't disagree that Peavy is the better starter right now. But overall, how much would he improve the rotation, since you wouldn't be able to move out one of the guys who is actually pitching poorly at the moment? You trade that day in the rotation with Tillman for Peavy, but honestly he's the one guy in the rotation right now I feel most confident will not get lit up at any given moment. I would rather be able to push one of the sub-par performers out.

Consider also that Tillman is on a friendly contract making just over $500k. Anyone know how long before he gets expensive?

He won't be next year. But I believe 2015 is an arbitration year for him

You want to go to the WS this year? Tillman isn't going to get you there. Peavy might. You want too keep waiting until next year when the new cavalry is sure to come, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. We have one #2 in Chen, and a bunch of #3's and 4's. We need a true #1.

Are you implying that Tillman is the only way to get Peavy?

Oh well, then all bets are off. That surely negates the rest of his career numbers. :rolleyestf:

You don't weaken your rotation by trading Tillman for Peavy. Just inane.

You're not trading anything like Bundy, Gausman, or Tillman for Peavy. However, for a year and a half of Peavy you'll probably have to trade Eduardo Rodriguez+ if Bundy/Gausman/Tillman aren't being traded.

I very much like Peavy, his longevity is a concern, but he had a solid season last year and is healthy this year.

Pretty much, yes. Arrieta and Britton aren't getting it done. And Schoop has a broken back, so what else do we have to offer?

Center it around the guy they wanted for Floyd: Matusz. They could attempt to turn him into starter for fairly cheap. You'd have to add pieces to that. I don't who else gets it done. Maybe Hoes and another piece or two (?).

Eduardo Rodriguez, Josh Hader, LJ Hoes, Jake Pettit, Mike Wright, Henry Urrutia, Brian Matusz, Zach Britton are all trade chips. There are others as well, but hands off of Bundy, Gausman, Schoop and Tillman. Jake Arrieta is a throw in piece.

Hoes, Avery and co. are pipe dream fillers. Matusz plus someone like Hader maybe.

He is implying that he does not like Tillman. Or at least thinks he is the number two that he is. And cheaply cost controlled.

And the upgrade from Chris to Peavy is not even certain.

I could see Tillman pitching a shutout in a playoff game. Hoss.

    • You should totally sue them. What gall they have to kinda, sorta imply that their baseball replays are accurate to the tenths of a second when they might not actually be that. That's exactly what leads to distrust of all institutions, chaos, revolution, and then we're living in some kind of post-apocalyptic hellscape, boiling our own shoes for the meager nutrition in the leather.
    • I think I used elite a little too loosely. Still, not a ton of hitters do better than 1:2 over a full season.
    • Baumeister threw 4.2 scoreless innings last night, 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts.  He pounded the strike zone, throwing 49 strikes in 71 pitches.   In 14 innings spanning 4 outings, he’s got a 1.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, 1.8 K/BB.  The walks have been high, 10 in 14 innings, but not crazy high for a guy just getting his feet wet.  Decent start for Baumeister.
    • I always thought that if you weren't around 10:1 you weren't trying hard enough.
    • Adley was a nearly finished product when picked, if not for tradition and service time stuff he could have been in the majors shortly after he left college. Gunnar needed 1000+ minor league plate appearances as a high school pick. Ask this same question about the 1990-2017 Orioles with their development system. They certainly could have found a way to screw up Gunnar, would have been harder with Adley.
    • I don’t think it was weird at all.  EDC said it but I thought it unfolded as expected.  You knew the QBs would go. You knew tons of OT and WR would go.   This was always going to be an offense dominated first round. The Oline and WR depth is in every round. I suspect that they go Oline twice or Oline/WR tonight.  Obviously you never know how the board falls but I think that’s what is likely.   This is mainly going to be an offense draft. EDC said a few weeks ago that they will draft a RB.  My guess is that the RB goes sometime in day 3. They will come out of this draft with at least 2 more Olineman, one WR and one RB.  I suspect they take a safety at some point as well. The question will be do they take 9 players.  The Ravens didn’t feel this was a draft with as many draftable players as years past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they make some kind of a trade.
    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.
