(Almost) All Things Manny Machado....

Manny's homer last night had a win probability added of .898.    His top 4 WPA scores have all come on homers in the last 30 days:

- Last night's 2 out, 9th inning, 2-run homer to win 7-6: .898

- August 18 walk-off grand slam with 1 out in bottom of the 9th to win 9-7: .664

- August 7 grand slam to break a 2-2 tie in the 7th inning: .407

- August 23 walk off homer with nobody out in the bottom of the 12th: .358

There are approximately 150 players with greater WAR than Manny this year.  His performance was way down the second half last year.  His June numbers are better but they aren't off the charts good.  Is he a 735 OPS, 800 OPS, or 850+ OPS?  At the all star break last year I would have bet 850+ but based on the last 160 games he is closer to 735.  Set aside the contract for a moment, what do you think Manny is as a player going forward?

Long term?   .850+ over the next 7-10 years.     This year?    He probably won't be over .800, but I'd still bet on him getting back to .780 or so eventually.

.835 and rising.    I underestimated him.

I've watched this about ten times and it'll never be enough.    It looked like a lazy fly ball to CF when it left the bat, so I can't really blame Thorne for being fooled.   But boy, it had plenty of distance!   (433 feet per hittrackeronline.com.)

I do blame Thorne for wrapping the game up when we were down by only one run in the 9th inning, allocating the pitching W, L, and S. While sitting next to Palmer.

That is an extremely annoying habit.     It actually bothers me more when we're winning -- I'm superstitious that way.
