Has Keith Law even seen him play? I read that but after watching a bunch of games this season on MILB.TV, the kid looks like a ballplayer to me. Great batting eye. I am no scout, but to say probably not a regular 1B logn term is nuts to me. That comment really fires me up.

Harbor Park wasn't responsible for him striking out in 33 of 99 road at-bats. That, more than anything else, suggests that he is not ready to contribute at the big league level.

He was actually a significantly better hitter at home with Norfolk. He had 2 homers and 7 doubles in 67 at-bats at home. He had 4 homers and 3 doubles in 99 road at-bats.

Did Christian Walker steal your girlfriend? :) Geesh...

So how is he any different than Chris Davis???

Lol god what a dingus.

I guess I'm a dingus, too

I get being rubbed the wrong way by Law's demeanor/delivery, but this is not an atypical opinion among evaluators from what I understand.

I think Walker has a shot at carving out a legitimate career - but as a somewhat unconventional 1B bat. Think a more athletic Billy Butler. That's the ceiling for me. Maybe a 25% chance at becoming a regular starter for a good chunk of time.

Chris Davis had poor seasons before that is why the Rangers gave up on him. He just failed a drug test. I am sure if he were scheduled to make 5 million next year we would keep him. But the selfishness of his hitting is not going to win any appreciation from management. Hit the other way when they are giving you the whole left side of the infield. When you get two strikes shorten your swing. Buck mentioned that he told Chris even if you hit 35 home runs you have another 600 plate appearances to worry about.

Chris had a terrible season and he didn't even try to change his approach. They pull the shift on Pearce he hits the other way. The drug suspension didn't help his cause. No reason to spend 10 million dollars based on Davis' performance in 2014.

I feel like I am having the same argument I had two years ago about Mark Reynolds. It is like if a guy hits a few home runs you forget about all the other glaring holes in his game. It is perplexing to me.

Can we please stop this kind of stuff? If it was so easy for some hitters to just hit the ball where ever they wanted, we probably wouldn't see extreme infield shifts on half the batters in MLB.

Some of us, don't put much faith in what Law's says. He is very opinionated as most sport guys are, however, he isn't somebody that you book on what he says.

    • Awesome research, thanks. I was a fan in 1974 but had forgotten that string of five shutouts.  This last two weeks of rotation excellence (and your list) is giving me flashbacks to the summer of love (1967), when I started to make game logs to savor the strings of shutouts and low-hit gems by Oriole starters. Looking back now at the game logs kept by Baseball-Reference (manually, without your sorting skills!), it's hard to identify exactly which streak so impressed my teenage fan-meter, or even which year. Certainly 1968 was all about low scoring league-wide.  Maybe it was the stretch 22-27 May 1967 featuring Phoebus, Bertaina, Barber, McNally, and Phoebus again (good old 4-man rotation!), including three scoreless outings. Or Hardin and Brabender joining Phoebus, McNally and Palmer from 15 to 20 September, 1967. What about 1969, with Cuellar, Lopez and Leonhard joining the previous cast of McNally, Phoebus, and Hardin, twirling 10 starts (13-22 June) while allowing only 12 runs.  Anyway, it feels rather historic to see this run of high-end pitching from an Orioles rotation. Here's a chart to recap the numbers on this streak in progress... Date Starter IP H ER ERA (14 G) totals: 81.67 59 19 2.09 21-Apr Irvin 6.2 4 0   22-Apr Suarez 5.2 4 0   23-Apr Rodriguez 4.1 11 7   24-Apr Kremer 5.1 3 2   26-Apr Burnes 6 3 1   27-Apr Irvin 7 4 0   28-Apr Suarez 4 7 4   29-Apr Rodriguez 5.2 5 0   30-Apr Kremer 7 4 2   1-May Burnes 6 4 2   2-May Bradish 4.2 4 1   3-May Irvin 6.1 2 0   4-May Means 7 3 0   5-May Kremer 6 1 0
    • Somehow feels typical of Orioles to play up to the competition, and get burned by the pretenders... same with individual starting pitchers.
    • It was very obvious ...he would also take a look at his hand frequently. On Saturday, watching a clip in the dugout after one of the HR's, Kremer went to give a high five, pulled back and took a look at his hand. I thought it strange, and I thought something was off. He always appeared to be one of the more enthusiastic celebrators. It would seem the coaches would notice and probably did, but thought nothing of it. Certainly didn't affect his game.
    • Umpire really tried to screw us on Saturday.
    • I heard someone call it The Great American Smallpark.
    • I just looked thru their record a while ago.  Series against the Nats (2), White Sox, Marlins, Cardinals, Rockies and Angels makes their record of 1 win better than the O's way less impressive.  Their schedule coming up must be hell.
