Well... when strikes arent called on the lower part of the strike zone, pitchers have no option but to keep the ball up or out of it. Automate the home plate ump... that position is downright useless.

So that you don't "hurt their pride," they could be given a buzzer to put in their pocket, which would make the call (one buzz = ball, two buzzes = strike), and then they would make the sign. They could still be given the "privilege" of ignoring the buzzer (but at the end of the season, the umps who disagreed too "much" would get fewer assignments the next season).

I was wondering after watching this team how they only won 89 games, but they went something like 6-13 against Detroit. So against the rest of the majors, they were 83-60. That is pretty good. Of course, we were 95-61 against everyone other than Detroit!

Why give them that privilege? Just eliminate him entirely, either it's a strike or not.
