The thing I despised about Hunter was he always acted as if he knew as much about the nuances of baseball as the former player color commentators. He wouldn’t ask them useful questions to try to draw on their knowledge. He’d make declarative statements and then invite them to agree to show how knowledgeable he was. And of course Jim Palmer would find some polite way to say: “You don’t know what you’re talking about and the real explanation is X.” -
Bingo!!! And to add more levity, All AL East teams lost last night and our Joey Ortiz almost single handedly beat the Sanks!!!! There were a lot of tears in Mudville last night. -
Looks like his 2 seamer velo was only a tick down from where it sat last year at 95. I’d say that’s pretty encouraging if the weather was in fact colder and considering he’s still rehabbing/building up. His 4 seamer was down 2 MPH but considering the 2 seamer is his best fastball, I’ll take his 2 seamer being only 0.8 MPH down right now. Can you see what his slider and curve were at? Both those pitches were up almost 1.5 MPH last year from 2022 so curious to see if that held. -
I actually miss Jim Hunter. His voice was just smooth and he didnt get overly tacky or corny like Brown occasionally will. Hunter could be a cheerleader at times but never felt nauseated by it like I would with Bordick. Hunter was underrated. -

I think your wife might be on to something. If you’re not enjoying watching the games, what’s the point? Watch a sport where a good team only loses a few times a year if every loss sends you into a spiral. Last night was a good, tight, well pitched ballgame. It was a bummer we lost, especially with a blown save. But that’s baseball, and that happens to every single team, multiple times per year. It’s what makes the games so tense and exciting in the first place. That’s the part I don’t get - we’re all long time baseball fans, we know the ebbs and flows of a season. Given that, why so much negativity so early on? Anyway. I’ve said enough on this topic and I’m sure my thoughts are falling mostly on deaf ears. Everybody can fan how they want. I’ll just continue to stay off the board after losses so I don’t get caught up in how some people choose to. -
