I don't wish Miller ill, but if this were to turn out to be something serious, I would have so much fun mocking all those posters who have spent the last two months haranguing Orioles' management for not signing him. And, of course, I'd be happy about the impact on the Yankees.

In the short term, I'm glad we won't see him this weekend.

Not to mention Nelson Cruz' back problems and .615 OPS the past 2 weeks.

Cruz left today's game early as well. Let's see where those posters are now.

I'd like to think that had we been able to retain Miller that Buck wouldn't have ridden him like a rented mule over the first 2.5 months of the season. Then again, who knows how and when these types of things happen exactly. Girardi is a good manager, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when thinking about overusing Miller and Betances.

I won't mind if we don't have to deal with him for the next 12-16 months though.

P.S. -- in other news, Nelson Cruz has a .618 OPS over his last 17 games, during which time he has 1 HR and 5 RBI.

Yes and what has he done up to this point? That does matter. Regardless, in the past but agree to disagree.

As if I needed more proof that I'm not cut out to be an MLB GM.

Don't misunderstand, I totally understood the logic for not signing him and couldn't fault the Orioles for not doing it. But damn it, did I want them to. I'm a sentimental sap. Oddly, as I get older, I seem to be embracing the emotional part of fandom, and becoming less detached (maybe as I realize more and more that I'll never be in any position where my opinion will matter?).

In any case, I comfort myself with the knowledge that I know it's illogical, but since it's all for entertainment, might as well entertain ourselves in the ways that allow for the most comfort individually I suppose.

What a strangely spelled word!

Just sayin'...

What he has done in the past matters because it creates a pattern. He has frequently gone on the DL around this time. He has rarely played more than 128 G per season. This time last season he went into a slump through August 31, hitting .215 .279 .405 .684 during that time. Lets see what he does now.

Well, ya know, if we had Cruz and Miller the O's would be up by at least 10 games in the race and they could afford to rest them a bit.

This isn't as much as a stretch as you think. Take some wins from the Yankees give us a handful more W's. We might be 10 games better in the standings.

We blew no saves. So Miller nets you ZERO.

Cruz can't help the team he is on. They have two more losses than we do. He certainly wouldn't help anyone else.

So we are all giddy over the fact that Cruz and Miller have taken a downturn? I would rather celebrate a successful signing then take joy in the fact that all the guys we didn't sign have taken a downturn. Of course, we didn't sign anyone of significance so that isn't possible.

    • I'm a big fan.  It doesn't mean I have sources in the clubhouse. Do we have any idea who her sources are?  Does she have any kind of track record of having reliable sources?
    • I don't know who this woman is and I don't do Twitter. And this is what I touched on in the other thread: I don't know what the best path forward is b/c I don't know exactly what the problem is. I don't think Hyde needs to go, but if this is true- and I have no idea if it is or not- he should be gone. The talk of veteran leaders brings questions.  What was insufficient of the leadership of Satandaner, Mullins, Burnes, and Kimbrel?
    • Sig for me is notably rigorous trying to combat this.    I feel pretty sure he had a say in crafting his very geeky title, a reflection of his personal brand. We'll see how it goes here if it becomes recommending Adam Frazier and Kyle Gibson as correct for the roster once again.
    • Again, I'm not sure what the point of contention is. They won 91 games and lost in the Wildcard round.  That puts them smack in the middle of what I forecast as their most likely outcome, though I did hope for more playoff success.  I'm not sure how that is proof I misevaluated anything. Further, again, lecturing me about the importance of depth, when I'm one of the biggest hoarders on this board, and you're one of the biggest opposite of that, is ironic to say the least.
    • Aaron Judge whined about it so I’m a fan.  The older I get, the more I think people just exist to look for confirmation biases. In all avenues of life. Paul Simon wrote “a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.” I’m sure if we beat the Royals and advanced and Walltimore robbed three or four homers from the Royals, we’d be extolling its virtues and how great it is.    But that didn’t happen. If anything, there were a couple instances where, if anything, it worked against us.    So here we are.
    • I mean I wouldn’t be concerned about her opinions on which FA to sign or which players are best. But, she’s definitely a big fan and is just passing off info given to her. If it didn’t track into some other things that make sense, I wouldn’t pay it much mind. Of course, someone with an agenda could’ve just told her those things to spread rumors. Maybe Rick Dempsey haha.
    • Do you think any team is too stupid to account for home park dimensions when evaluating pitchers?
