Encouraging game tonight

Just four seasons ago, in our 14th consecutive year of losing baseball, our record was 45-69 after 114 games. How miserable this season has been is a matter of perspective. If we'd had this record in 2012 (we were three games better), we'd have been giddy with the improvement. Coming off a trip to the ALCS, not so much.

This is misery? It will be September in two weeks. And we are a game and half out! Then Buck gets to play with a 35 man roster.

Despite how miserable the season has been, we're in position to jump at a playoff spot if some guys will start playing as they're capable, especially the SP.

Miserable?

Miserable??? Really?

2010 was miserable.

2005 was miserable. Palmeiro.

One could argue this season is downright intriguing.

3 consecutive winning seasons (going on 4) has increased Orioles fans' expectations and standards.

That's a good thing.

And the 13th inning walk off didn't even make the morning summary. MLB does hate The O's. 08bfe789cd217ba66ba7429d3891a595.jpg

Other than the Kemp cycle (which is meaningless), I wouldn't put a 4th place team vs a 5th place team over any of those other very meaningful events.

Took 13 innings to beat the worst team in the AL

starting the staff ace against a guy with a 2-9 record in AAA.

Coming off a full day rest with Oakland playing on Thursday and arriving late to Baltimore

Encouraged? Not

Good morning! I tried talking with you last night after you showed up after what must have been a very long and strenuous day at work, but you just hit and run. How is your morning so far?

Yeah, he was one-and-done last night in the game thread:

Well time to watch Matusz lose another game ... this should be fun.

Probably just a coincidence that he exited the thread after Matusz pitched a shutout inning, including 2 strikeouts.

Yep. Good play increases expectations. When there is a constant struggle on what should be a good team, there is a lot of frustration and can make for a miserable season. Just because 2010 was so awful doesn't mean that this year can't have misery.

I am miserably every time the team loses.

We get to enjoy it for only one day. Miguel pitches tonight against a guy who baffled us last time. Im still enjoying last night. I have low expectations for tonight.

Post a thread just make certain we know your concerns against this juggernaut squad.

I feel bad about not seeing the Farrell lymphoma thing. The way it was word wrapped, it just seemed like an incomplete sentence that I didn't pay attention to. It was only after a friend on FB mentioned it today that I went back and re-read this.

    • Not for someone who has money riding on him winning the award.
    • Well, now that we’ve established the hitting sucks, is it a good time to complain that this pitching is obviously over performing and will crash and burn any day now?
    • The bullpen has much more depth this year than last year but it just feels like you don’t know who will be the guy each night.  Last year it was get to the 8th and you knew it was Cano and Bautista and lights out.  This year it doesn’t seem to be set roles especially with Kimberly strugggles and out as clasper for now possibly.  I also think Hyde gets a lot of grief about how he handles the bullpen but I think he has been great at looking at the game situation and with who he wants facing what guys.  Cano might come in the 6th one night then close the next, same with Webb or even Coulumbe.  I know a lot of it is analytics but as a group they make a plan and seem to stick with it instead of some managers that have 7 inning guy an 8th inning guy and closer and don’t deviate much.
    • On the replay you can see that Julio was lightly jogging after the ball-- either assuming the RF would get it, or assuming Hays wouldn't run. Good on Hays for taking advantage and turning it into a double.
    • I think in general people are more negative in life not just in sports and they need to blame someone or something.  In previous years we had a scapegoat in Peter and John.  Elias didn’t go out and make a trade it was because he didn’t have the money to go get anyone or the owner didn’t want to spend.  Now for the most part people seem to think new ownership will give the ok to spend more so now if we don’t do it it is on Elias, Sig, and Hyde for not getting best out of the players.  We dint make a big trade last year and most people just went with well John is cheap we don’t do what they want now it will fall on Elias more then last year in peoples eyes imo.
    • Mike Baumann.  An enigma wrapped in a conundrum.  Ride the wave!
    • The Yankees have been extremely healthy on offense as well.  If that somehow happens all year they will be right there with us but if I was a betting man I don’t think Judge, Stanton, Rizzo can stay healthy all year and they have very little depth behind those guys.  Besides Adley we have guys at every other position that can fill in if someone goes down.  There might be a drop some but I don’t think it would be catastrophic like losing Judge or Soto.
