I do think 3rd may be in the cards for Hardy at some point...just for durability sake.

His bat barely plays at pitcher, let alone 3rd.

Manny should be playing SS. But politics man, politics.

Hardy is a GG SS and the oldest and perhaps most respect player on the team. Not to mention fat, juicy contract.

Manny is a prodigy.

Who do you think gets their position of choice?

Politics.

Considering that Hardy has won three Gold Gloves in a row, and played at a Gold Glove level when healthy this year, the decision isn't that complicated.

It will be fun seeing Manny get an opportunity at SS now, however.

You are missing the point entirely. It's not that the Gold Gloves give JJ clout. It's THAT HE'S THE BEST DEFENSIVE SHORTSTOP IN THE LEAGUE. The Orioles' best defensive alignment is Hardy at SS and Manny at 3B, and that defensive combo is the very best thing about the 2012-15 Orioles.

The other variables are that Manny also happens to play a great 3B, which JJ can't do, and that JJ is a great SS, which we don't know if Manny is. This is not politics at all. This is trying to maximize your roster to win baseball games.

Not a good solution. If Hardy's back is fried than Flaherty is a better hitter and cost controlled. And would likely be a plus 3B defensively.

That's the best I got and it's not a very good one. But this is the consequence of not taking advantage of a good hitting SS and play him at SS.

There is a reason why SS move to 3b later in their career. Hardy's troubles with injuries might present the same reasons.

Buck just said, if JJ gets back he will continue playing short and then Janish will be there tomorrow.

So Manny blows our minds and gives us imaginations of what he could do there in 1 game. And then he's back to 3B.
