If we're going to give up the pick, I'd much rather have Dexter Fowler. Two years younger, has better speed, and switch hits without a need to platoon. I would prefer Denard Span and a Will Venable/Steve Pearce platoon to fill out the OF though.

We would lose the one we would get if he signs elsewhere, just as we lost a pick when MW took the QO. So, really no difference between signing Davis or any other player with a QO.

So we're really not losing a pick at all. We're just not gaining a pick.

Look at it this way. When the O's offered QOs to Davis, Chen, and Wieters, they gained three possible picks. When Wieters took the QO, they lost that possibility, reducing the number to two.

If the O's sign Davis, it goes to one. If they sign Gordon (or any other player with a QO) it goes to one. Signing Davis has no different an impact than signing any other free agent who comes with a QO.
