How much will Duquette spend? Are we there yet?

How exactly does a one year deal that potentially could see his clients value plummet save face for Boras when he was asking for a $200 million deal?
If he signs with the O' for less than the 150 M, which is probably his only option, he will look foolish. The pillow contract would be like taking the QO. No real difference than Weiters, who had multiple offers but deemed none worthy enough.

Didn't you tell WC he has no idea what the budget is set at? Well, neither do you have any idea what will happen with Davis. And Wieters isn't remotely a good comparison.

The budget is elastic depending on PA's whims, No one knows what it is. probably including DD. Certainly not you. I am beginning to think that Boras to save face will talk CD into taking a 1 year pillow for 16-18 M and try again next year. DET, BOS, MFY, HOU might be interested.

Maybe in early Feb. Boras has 6 weeks before he has to go to that strategy. He will be talking to the big budget owners.

  • 2 weeks later...
So we spent on Worley, Kim, Wieters, Trumbo and O'Day.

For a team that barely scraped being .500 last year and losing Davis and Chen...he better do something else because right now we are heading towards a 74 win season and fast.

Agreed ..... At the end DD will say ...Well we tried!

Just like Dupree's job interview at the retail store.

If there is not much left to spend, and we've heard that the big money is only available for Davis, why have we heard that the O's have talked about Upton, Gordon and Cespedes?
To get Boras to give in
Because reporters have to report something, even if there is nothing to report.

But why would those guys and their agents play along with the O's if they felt they were being used/strung along?

Big difference in that Wieters was overcoming injury issues, while Davis is coming off easily his 2nd best season as a pro where he posted a 5+ win season. Apples and Oranges. Wieters is far more likely to have similar contract offers next season regardless of how he performs in 2016.

Boras wants 180-200 M. He's not getting it this year. If Davis takes a one year deal and hits 40 HR, he will have the Yankees, BOS, TEX, CHW, and TOR bidding for him next year. Between them he'll get more than 7/150M.

But he could also have a 2014 type season and lose himself money. I like his chances to be closer to 2012, 2013 or 2015, but the risk is there. I don't think that Wieters has as much to lose in terms of potential contracts regardless of how he plays (within reasonable bounds) in 2016, but more upside if he does something similar to 2014.

Wieters probably wanted 5/80 M and got offers from TEX, SEA, and CHW for around 3/40 M, so he decided he could do better next season. Couldn't do much worse.

Bora's isn't going to gamble 150M this year so he has a CHANCE to make 180M next year. Too much down side. Bora's knows that Angelos' offer is sitting there if he can't do any better.
Is Boras as certain as you are that the O's wont sign one of the three OF if their price comes down enough?
