Chris Davis' numbers are very comparable to Cecil Fielder at the same age.

Fielder at age 30- 219 HRs, 680 RBIs, .259/.345/.501

Davis at age 30- 225 HRs, 608 RBIs, .252/.330/.502

Their career trajectory has also been eerily similar. They both had an incredible 50+ HR season after struggling mightily to find a place in the majors during the early parts of their careers. They both have led the league in HRs twice. They're both relatively low BA guys with tremendous power. Their walk rates (9.7% for Fielder and 9.4% for Davis) and HR% (5.8% for Fielder, 5.7% for Davis) are practically identical. Fielder was a solid slugger for three more years after his age 30 season but his batting average during those years were very low especially in the steroid era. Fielder had a bad year at age 34 and then he retired the following year after being cut in spring training. I see Davis following a similar path. His batting average will be in the .230s or .240s for the next three or four years but he'll still be a decent offensive player due to his ability to draw walks and hit for power. Then suddenly his offensive numbers will fall off the cliff and never recover.

He's getting paid off of what he has done in the past.

You going to ignore the fact he is going to end up with around 4 wins, and how he has never had a full healthy season under 5.2 in the last 4 years

I guess so.

Is being worth around 30m (or more) for the season not good enough for you?

Big Awful. Bordering on Chris Davis historical awful. Not quite there yet.

His numbers are almost the same this year at this date as last when he had a good year,. .806 ops ,804. 22 HR 22 HR 59 RBI 60 RBI 41 BB 55 BB. He had a worse stretch last year 883 TO. 711 OPS 24 G, v ,876 to ,804 20 G. Who knows?

I said it before I'll say it again. This contract will haunt the O's for many years to come. He is awful and should have never been given a 7 year deal. No one else even wanted him. we negotiated against ourselves. So we wouldn't give Nelson Cruz any money, who has been a consistent major league homerun hitter, but will give this strikeout machine a 7 year deal. Just horrible.

    • They’ve added a handful of additional receivers in the UDFA class https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-undrafed-free-agent-tracker-2024-nfl
    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
