Dad ran the stadium in Frederick and I was born during the end of the season. I attended my first game at a week old, in a box that no one was using that night with my mom.

So, I wasn't around at the time of this thread. I started reading through, and some of the responses made me laugh:

I know back in your day kids were too busy toiling in factories or hawking newspapers on street corners to get out and enjoy a baseball game once in a while, but things have gotten a bit easier since the turn of the 20th century.

Of course, any kid at a baseball game is one less kid you'd have to tell to get off your lawn. So thats nice.

You can get one also. Just tell them it is your first game at Camden Yards. Many stadiums do this.

Fan Assistance is very good at Camden Yards. We did that when Lila turned 7 two Septembers ago for her first O's game (and her birthday weekend).

And the usher in our section gave her a batting practice HR ball. Out of probably a hundred pictures of her that I adore, this is my favorite.

...... That's right.

I wanted to on Opening Day, just to say that he went to the first Orioles game he possible could but with all the drunks, including me on opening day even I knew that was a bad idea.

I am going to get that paper that says its his first game ever and put it in a plaque.

Going to go into the game at 5pm unless he is still sleeping, he usually naps in the 3-5pm range.

Going to feed him, then go in. Say I get in there at 5:30, I will stroller him through the entire park, take some pictures in front of the field and so on.

Park the stroller, need to change him, feed him again at 7:30ish and probably leave around 8, but that depends on him, need him home by 9pm

Got a ticket in section 260, the only ticket (so far) sold in that section.

Why do all this? for the love of baseball damn it!....

If a foul ball comes up there we will be fine, his dad is a gold glove center fielder in his mens over 30 baseball league

Got to get them in while they are young. I recommend swinging by guest services where they will give him an official certificate for attending his first O's game.

Ahhhh, I was going to see if anybody had brought that one up:

I have three grown children and I like kids as much as anyone else, but there is a time and a place to take them to sporting events. To me that time is when they are actually old enough to at least have a basic ability to watch the game. My first major league game I attended I was 8 years old and I can still recall it. I didn't understand a lot of what was going on but I did know the basic concept as I started playing Little League a year later and had watched Little League games where my cousins played when I was much younger, probably about 5 or six. I see nothing wrong with taking a small kid to a Little League game at all.

However, a toddler or worse yet a baby really should be at home or in a safer environment such as a park if someone wants to take them out for while. I cannot believe some morons take these little kids to major or minor league games and sit where a line drive or even a foul popup could kill the kid if it hit them.

I mean, maybe everyone here has the innate ability to always be able to shield their kid from a foul ball and maybe their kids never get annoyed when basically asked to sit with little movement for up to three hours, but most kids I see failing this test big time. Sorry, thats just reality.

I find it hard to believe that everyone here has a perfect two or three year old who sits still and doesn't jump around, figet, whine, want to eat constantly and go to the bathroom, and/or continually wants to know when it is time to go home?:scratchchinhmm: Thats not the kind of kids I see everywhere!:laughlol:

And for the record, you don't have to take your kid to a professional sporting event to merely spend time with them. You could even stay home and watch the game and read them a book or something while doing so!

My friend invited me to his son's first baseball game last season. I took the printed out ticket to the OP@CY box office and asked for a hard ticket. The next time that I saw my friend, I gave him the ticket in an acrylic stand like this one. They loved it.
