The O's don't have any leverage.

All they can do is threaten him with paying him 13.5M a year early.

That seems to be what Duquette wants, but Buck refuses to pitch him in any sort of leverage situation. Apparently we need to be down 10+ runs for Ubaldo to pitch.

I just don't think this is true. Buck randomly gave him a start just 2 weeks ago. He had other options available.

From what I understand you don't even have to pitch "effectively" anymore.

It would be silly to get rid of him so close to September. Use him as your last man in the pen until September, and see what you have next spring.

He could accept a minor league assignment. Seems like that would be the best option for everyone.

Does anyone know for sure if O's management has offered him the minor league option? Did he outright refuse it?
