Hate Saying This, But It Is Looking Like The Orioles Could Be The Odd Team Out.

I don't think he's being a Debbie downer when he's simply stating facts.

The team is treading water and it seems to be real close to be shark infested water. They really do need to put together a good stretch over these next 40 or so games. Coming back from 7-1 isn't going to happen to often. This team needs to hit and pitch at the same time.

Here's a fact. No sure things in baseball. Teams are never as bad or as good as they are playing at the moment. Remember that awful Houston series when they threw nothing but curveballs and we couldn't hit. The team looked terrible and flat and all the Debbies were convinced the season was over. And then we proceeded to have record numbers in June. Not sayng it will happen again but what is essentially the difference between that bad patch and this one?

the next six games should tell us something. Houston on a four game losing streak and not hitting. Washington has a depleted and injured bullpen with one lefty who can't get anyone out. Plus Strasburg has been hit hard in his last three starts.

These are precisely the kinds of teams that scare me now. Back in the bad, old days of pre-DD... the Orioles should have been called the Magical Elixirs because every down-and-out, near-death team that played us suddenly looked amazing and recovered from whatever ills had beset them. Their "inexperienced" underperformers suddenly sprang to life as "fiery youngsters"... Their broken down geezers suddenly morphed into "battle-hardened veterans"... Etc.

I fear we're going back to that status. The Orioles are once again becoming the team that struggling teams cannot wait to play, to jump start their flagging seasons. Look at the A's series as the prime recent example.

Hope I'm wrong.

The team was hitting in April, May and June?

Not sure what your point is Deb, but as Frobbie pointed out elsewhere, prior to the their breakout June they went 21-23, prompting Tony's mediocre thread. In the past 43 G they have gone 20-23. What is it about that extra L that convinces you that they cannot get hot again?

Right now, we're not playing better than anyone in this division. I could very well be wrong, but it seems that every time as of late when we play the Jays, Sox or even the Yanks, we always seem to lose the 1st game of the series and more times than not, have to win the final game just to salvage the series.

We seem to never beat the Jays. The Sox just seem more talented and the Yankees, even after a fire sale, is playing A LOT better than we are. Then you have teams in other divisions that are coming.

I'm officially worried about our chances to make the playoffs. You can't continue to rely on winning games in the 7th, 8th and 9th. I would like to see this team do a little more damage in the first 6 innings.

And start Kim against lefties.

43 games to play. A new season starts tonight. Sweep the Astros. Boston and Toronto lose. It's really too close. Fight to the finish.

Though I've lost a bit of my optimism about this season, I have no doubt the fight will be in this team until the end.

Chokers like last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just like last year, fading at the end. Can't hit, no clutch pitching. Looks

like toronto and boston.. Left are broken hearted oriole fans!!!!!!!!!!

You ought to change your handle. Die hard? With 45 games to play? Surely you jest. Another front-runner.

Who has a more ironic name, him or calmunderfire?

His name was Cal ........ Cal Munderfire.

    • I also went with Burnes because of his better durability. Since 2019 Snell has pitched more then 128 innings in a season one time (180 innings in 2023). While Burnes has pitched over 167 inning or more every season since becoming a full time starter in 2021. Burnes is also two years younger so in theory while a six year contract is riskier it would end at the same age as Snell on a four year deal. I'd be happy with either one, but my preference in Burnes.
    • Adding that I would go for Roki over either of them.
    • I'd go for Snell. He has true Cy Young stuff. Burnes is really good but his K rate keeps dropping and the years scare me. The box score for his playoff start was solid but he actually gave up a lot of hard contact. I just don't trust him enough to commit all those years and dollars.
    • I go Burnes because to me the higher floor is very important with this sort of deal. I feel like Snell's skillset is more on a razor's edge-- if you didn't like how Burnes pitched in August, Snell is almost certainly more prone to stretches of poor performance like that. Even if he is more dominant at other times to balance it out. Plus, the extra length of Burnes' deal is offset a bit by being 2 years younger.
    • Snell is injury prone and Burnes is a tough workhorse.
    • Didn't see the video? The ball went maybe 15 feet before it bounced, it was rolling by the dugout.  It was nothing and the Dodgers look soft. Was he supposed to let the discarded ball stay on the field?
    • Rojas pulled from the bases in the 3rd inning after he couldn't manage 2nd to home on a Mookie single (and Ohtani couldn't 1st to 3rd behind him) as the Dodgers try to dig out of 6-1.    Rojas' limited mobility hurt the Dodgers defense on a Bogaerts ground ball where Merrill was too quick going first to second, and Rojas ended up getting no outs on a routine ground ball. Manny with a cagey zigzag baserunning move during the Padres 6-run inning off Buehler, getting into Freeman's throwing lane to put Buehler into the jam. Teoscar grand slam brings it back to 6-5 in the 3rd inning...get your popcorn ready.
