Thanks for clarifying that scenario. If we win today, and Jays lose, we'll host the WC game on Monday against Jays or Detroit?

No.

Wild card game is SCHEDULED for Tuesday, not Monday.

We would host it, but it could be later.

If Detroit is within half game of a wild card game either way, they play a makeup game with Cleveland Monday.

If, after that makeup game, they are then tied with Toronto for the #2 WC, they would play off vs Toronto Tuesday for the #2 WC and the WC game in Baltimore would have to be postponed to Wednesday (probably in the afternoon, so the winner could fly to Texas for the ALDS which starts Thursday, and because the NLWC game is Wednesday evening).

There is even a remote possibility that after Det plays their makeup game Monday, there would be a three-way tie between Detroit Toronto and Seattle for the last wild-card. That would take TWO days to settle (Tue-Wed) so we would host the WC game Thursday (probably afternoon) and the start of the ALDS in Texas would have to be delayed to Friday (with game 2 Saturday, eliminating what would have been a day off for travel back to Baltimore.ore for Game 3 Sunday night (definitely a night game because the Ravens are home Sunday afternoon)).

Got all that?

The Yankees seem like they've already packed it in for the season. Girardi shut down Tanaka and started Severino instead, so the Yankees are ready for the offseason. This isn't the same team that swept Boston that's

for sure. So, if the Orioles end up finishing this win, they will either play Seattle in Seattle, Toronto in Toronto or Detroit in Baltimore for a wild card game and Buck can thank Hyun-soo Kim for turning this team's momentum

around single handedly.

Are you basing this around us losing tomorrow?

Um, that's not definitive unless you are conceding tomorrow's game.

The Yankees aren't going to win a game in this series playing the way they are now. I say that expecting Toronto to continue falling and both Seattle and Detroit are hot with their big players stepping up. I don't think

Toronto makes it in at this point IMO.

I think we end up home for the WC game against Toronto or Detroit.

Oh, my fault. I thought the home field in wild card was determined by who won the head vs. head series in the regular season. Could have sworn I heard someone say that during the Toronto series.

Amazing summary. Thanks!! But wow. What a bizarre and awesome wildcard year.

You do realize we are the 1st WC right now...

Tanaka has a flexor mass issue.

    • Mayo coming back from injury could have his debut in Baltimore delayed.
    • Wasn't a huge fan of his swing for that last out today but coming in to pinch hit with 2 outs isn't easy.
    • Interpreting Malike's comment that way is theoretically possible, but I didn't take it that way--didn't feel that shade was being thrown on me at all. But thanks for the concern.
    • People are being a bit ridiculous with the holier than thou takes criticizing a little humor. I am not saying what happened couldn’t cause a significant concussion, but it would be a bit of a fluke if it did. Mullins barely hit him with the bat and he had a helmet on. The fact that it was in the back of the head did make him more vulnerable, but this wasn’t the type of thing you see and think he was lucky to be alive.  Guys have probably hit their heads harder on the top of the dugout or on the fence making catches.  And note this comes from someone whose son has suffered severe concussions and who is well aware of the dangers associated with them. In short, people need to lighten up a bit on guys like Roy.  It was a little gallows humor.
    • Yeah, you read that wrong. LA2 is one of my favorite posters here and he knows it. No harm, no foul. If you aren't familiar with the game threads, it doesn't matter what the team is doing, people complain about it and people did make that same joke in the game thread long before Roy said it here. Game thread in summary - when the O's are not doing well, it's insufferable, when they are doing well, it's mildly less insufferable. There, that wasn't hard. I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I'm throwing shade at people. I'll leave that up to you to do, you're really good at it.
    • Comp a. Like Gunnar, and beavers…
    • Wasn't Westburg a 2nd round draft pick?  It's a little early to judge last year's draft.
