This seems like a perfect guy for the O's to take a flyer on.  Still only 26 and has upside.   Could be a steal, as the Phillies just released him.

He is a name because of what he did in college but injuries have caused his skills to decline.  Obviously it would not cost the Orioles anything but there are a ton of no names the Orioles could sign that are just as likely to help.

Was Appel the guy that the Astros promoted within the minors when they probably shouldn't have?  My memory is vague, but I remember people in the organization felt that he was being coddled.  I think it was Appel, but I'm not positive.
