Keegan Akin 2018

I am no expert by any means but I did sit just behind home plate (I believe we were next to Alex Murphy's mom and wow).  I thought he looked good until he ran into trouble in the 5th.  He had good velocity and good break on his off speed stuff.  The ump appeared to have large strike zone.  The ump called anything close inside a strike.  He was able to take advantage of this.  A scout told me he was hitting 93.

Sounds like you liked what Zach Thompson (Winston-Salem's starter) was doing!

His knucklecurve was giving the Keys batters fits. His fastball was nothing to write home about, but his knucklecruve had some good late bite. Saying that, I'd seen three games and I haven't seen a Keys hitter hit a curveball yet. They need a curveball machine or something.

Akin had his best outing of the year so far: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K's.    He's struck out 24 batters in 15 IP.

ERA isn't pretty but overall I'd say he hasn't lost any luster as a prospect through the early going.

He's improved each start and the K's are good.  I like K's.

That first start was also in below freezing temps. Good to see it be an anomaly.

He's kind of been all over the map.   K's have been good, BB not so good, and until this last start his pitch counts have been very high.

0.2 IP, 32 pitches

5.0 IP, 81 pitches

4.1 IP, 93 pitches

5.0 IP, 84 pitches

5.0 IP, 92 pitches

3.0 IP, 79 pitches

7.1 IP, 94 pitches

I'd call this last start his best, and hope he continues to progress.
