The O’s saw 202 pitches today

I don’t know how often a team sees 200 pitches in a 9 inning game, but my guess would be that it only happens two or three times a season at most.   For example, when the O’s scored 17 runs against Tampa a couple of weeks ago, they “only” saw 194 pitches.   ChiSox pitchers were just all over the place today, and the O’s were pretty patient, for once!

For what it’s worth, the O’s pitching staff has already thrown 200+ pitches in a game twice this year, but both times the game went 12+ innings (the two Yankee games we won in extras).   192 is their high in regulation this year.

Now I’m really having some fun.   In the infamous 30-3 game (which I had the misfortune of attending), the O’s threw 252 pitches.    I’m actually surprised that’s all!    That team threw 200+ pitches five times in regulation.

Half (14 out of 28.)

He recorded 4 outs in the 4th inning, due to a dropped 3rd strike.
