Ironically, if that had never happened, Mordecai Brown might have been just another pretty good farmer.

Thank goodness that he got his hand mangled in that feed chopper.

It's too bad that we just don't get mangled in industrial or farming accidents like in the good old days.  We've gone soft.  If you don't want to be disfigured at your job making 50 cents an hour, don't slack off in hour 11 of your shift and stick your hand in the giant metal steam press.
