Now that CD has the record Hyde is not going to give him a chance to make it unbreakable?

He'll get his chance. Everyone is talking about the record right now, it makes sense to get him out of the spotlight for a little bit. They may also be crunching some data and planning to make some changes, but that's purely speculation.

Little surprised that Davis is sitting against a right-hander.

Pleasantly surprised, to be sure.

Now that Davis is actually coming out early to work on his swing, maybe they want to give him a chance to learn what he needs to do before throwing him out there.

Is sending Davis to the minors an option? How would that work?

If a player has 5 years of major-league service, he may not be assigned to a minor-league team without his consent. This exclusion applies regardless of whether he has not yet been outrighted once, has remaining options, or has cleared waivers. If the player withholds consent, the team must either release him or keep him on the major league roster. In either case, the player must continue to be paid under the terms of his contract. If he is released and signs with a new team, his previous team must pay the difference in salary between the two contracts if the previous contract called for a greater salary.

Honestly, if I were Davis I’d consider accepting an assignment to the minors for a fixed period of time, if that’s doable.    I realize he has no legal obligation, but he has to know he’s hurting the team and not really helping himself, and you’d think $161 mm would buy at least that much loyalty.
